Program Associate, The Better Evidence ProjectThe George Mason University Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution invites applications for a Program Associate. This position combines administrative and financial management duties with contributions to the substantive work of the BEP program.About the Better Evidence Project:The Better Evidence Project works to help stop and prevent wars by promoting and facilitating the use of evidence to guide the support, design, implementation, and assessment of peacemaking initiatives. It does so by encouraging decision-makers to base their allocation of peacemaking resources on evidence of what works and what does not work to stop or prevent wars and by collecting and maintaining a growing a body of compelling evidence of peacemaking efficacy, making it available in an accessible and user-friendly online format to donors, practitioners, policymakers, scholars, and local peacemakers.Responsibilities:The Program Associate will -Oversee the financial accounts and budget of the Better Evidence Project in consultation with the Executive Director;Maintain general office records and files (institutional knowledge);Serve as liaison with the administrative and communications teams at the Carter School;Serve as liaison with the administrative and financial support services offices of the university;Oversee the BEP intern program, managing 3-4 interns per semester;Have responsibility for the collection of materials for the Resource Center Library;Manage and market public events;Maintain organization databases and contacts (e.g., mailing lists, stakeholder outreach);Develop a social media strategy and outreach;Update and edit internal and external written documents (e.g., reports, website content, special projects);Coordinate the publication of a quarterly newsletter;Coordinate the administrative work of the Better Evidence Project in contributing to Carter School projects and grants;Answer email inquiries in a timely and professional manner;Work with the Executive Director on expanded outreach to the peacemaking field; andAssist the Executive Director on project development and implementation of new projects.This position reports to and is supervised by BEP's Executive Director.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience; or a currently enrolled George Mason University junior or senior with a strong academic record and relevant work experience;One year of administrative or office work experience;Excellent oral and written communication skills;Strong organizational and time management skills;Takes initiative, can manage multiple priorities, and can work independently as needed;Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, Zoom, Teams, and general office technology;Demonstrated interest in and general knowledge of conflict resolution, peacemaking, and war prevention; andAbility to work well with others, and demonstrated interest in working as part of a collaborative team.Preferred Qualifications:Financial management experience;Familiarity with databases and knowledge management;Website design skills; experience using social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram); andCommunications and marketing skills.At present, this position is predominantly virtual. That could change over the course of the year.Compensation: $18 - $23 per hour, depending on experience.Schedule: 20 hours per week.
