Office Manager - Department of Philosophy and Department of Religious StudiesThe George Mason University Departments of Philosophy and Religious Studies invites applications for an Office Manager position. The George Mason Department of Philosophy has excellent full-time faculty committed to undergraduate and graduate education. The faculty reflects a wide range of philosophical interests. The Department of Religious Studies at George Mason is a vibrant community of scholars and students exploring questions about human life through the lens of religion.Responsibilities:Oversee and manage the day-to-day logistics and ordering/purchasing for the Philosophy and Religious Studies Departments;Provide administrative support to the department chairs, faculty and students;Provide support to research centers that are affiliated with the Departments;Supervise student wage and work-study students;Manage and track all finances for the Philosophy and Religious Studies Departments, research centers and individual faculty grants;Maintain department websites and troubleshoot problems and work with CHSS web team on website improvements, additions of material, and removal of information from website;Process paperwork and onboarding for new employees and keep personnel files up-to-date. The office manager services as the primary point of contact for all new employees;Facilitate the organization of special events for both departments and centers;Flexibility to take on additional administrative and operational tasks identified or assigned by the Department Chairs or research center directors; andWork closely with the Department Chairs to improve workflows.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;Demonstrated verbal, written, and interpersonal skills;Demonstrated experience in an administrative role;Proficient organizational skills with attention to detail;Ability to work independently, take initiative, organized, and self-motivated;Ability to define tasks and accomplish them in a timely and accurate fashion;Demonstrated customer service and written and verbal communication skills;Experience maintaining Web sites, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel;Computer skills including word processing and ability to work with spreadsheet databases; andAbility to work with online data platforms.Preferred Qualifications:Prior experience in higher education administration;Experience with Mason systems such as Banner, Microstrategy, Courseleaf for scheduling and curriculum management, Finance Gateway, and TK20; andMason Administrative Experience.
