Communications Coordinator for Student and Academic AffairsThe George Mason University College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) invites applications for the position of Communications Coordinator for Student and Academic Affairs. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Department:The CEHD Office of Student and Academic Affairs (SAA) supports the teaching, scholarship, and service missions of the College by onboarding new students, facilitating enrollment and retention, addressing barriers to success, adjudicating appeals and grievances, awarding scholarships, coordinating enrichment activities and celebratory events such as the student research symposium and graduation, and providing students with a broad range of informational, advising, professional development, financial, and support resources. Further, SAA advises College and University faculty and staff on academic policies and procedures, complex student matters, instructional challenges and pedagogical enhancements, curricular development, course scheduling, and integrity and compliance efforts. See https://cehd.gmu.edu/ to learn more about the College.Responsibilities:The Communications Coordinator for Student and Academic Affairs, reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student and Academic Affairs, will be responsible for performing the following functions:Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive communications plan targeted to promote student engagement and sense of belonging and to ensure student, faculty, and staff awareness of Mason and CEHD policies, procedures, and protocols; activities and events; and relevant news and highlights utilizing a variety of platforms including digital newsletters and guides, social media, and The Student Success Blog;Design and manage the CEHD Student Enrichment WordPress website and event platform and collaborate with the CEHD Office of Technology Services to ensure that the CEHD SAA website remains current;Design, brand, produce, and disseminate promotional materials (e.g., posters, digital signage, handbills) and media (e.g., programs, booklets, slide decks, signage, name badges, certificates, handouts) in support of all CEHD SAA initiatives, events, enrichment activities, ceremonies, and new student orientations; andLiaise with the Mason Office of Communications and communicators from Mason units; collaborate with CEHD communicators to coordinate crisis response communications and strategies for the college.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;Ability to translate complex concepts (including data visualization) in an engaging manner to reach a variety of audiences;Demonstrated proficiency with relevant software and communication platforms such as Microsoft Office suite (especially PowerPoint and Excel); Canva; Adobe In Design (for creation of guides and publications); WordPress (for web site design and management); and platforms for email marketing and analytics (e.g., MailChimp);Ability to multitask and prioritize amid changes in a fast-paced work environment while also maintaining attention to detail;Demonstrated customer service as well as verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills;Experience planning and supporting communications and graphics for small- and large-scale events and activities; andDemonstrated versatility in using and creating technology-based content (e.g., extracting content from database resources, creating content calendars for social media and publications, creating blog content, compiling and editing a newsletter, applying digital/web accessibility best practices, using Facebook and Instagram for business and higher education purposes).Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in a relevant field of study;Experience working in a higher education environment with diverse populations, including undergraduate and graduate students;Experience with event planning software;Demonstrated proficiency in photography/videography; andExperience with Adobe Premier Pro (video editing) and Adobe Lightroom or photoshop for photo editing.
