Overview

AARP Services, Inc., founded in 1999, is a wholly-owned taxable subsidiary of AARP. AARP Services manages the provider relationships for and performs quality control oversight of the wide range of products and services that carry the AARP name and are made available by independent providers as benefits to AARP's millions of members. The provider offers currently span health products, financial products, travel and leisure products, and life event services. Specific products include Medicare supplemental insurance; credit cards, auto and home, mobile home and motorcycle insurance, life insurance and annuities; member discounts on rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and lodging; special offers on technology and gifts; pharmacy services and legal services. AARP Services also engages in new product development activities for AARP and provides certain consulting services to outside companies.

The Vice President, Health Products and Services oversees the management of non-Medicare provider relationship activities to ensure the ongoing health of products/programs while continuing to grow, develop, and evolve the programs. In this role, you will oversee the evaluation of existing engagement programs and relationships to identify improvements and measure outcomes. This position assesses and monitors the current marketplace and collaborates with senior matrix leadership in the development of long-term goals and strategies to position continued successful growth.

Responsibilities

  • Builds, motivates and leads a team that can deliver on ASI/department vision and goals.
  • Works with SVP to set goals for the ASI annual operating plan and provides strategic direction for the planning and implementation of Line of Business priorities, analyzing the impact of decisions and implementing changes to achieve dashboard goals.
  • Directs and completes all provider contract negotiations and renegotiations for the products/programs offered to AARP members.
  • Oversees providers' annual business planning, operating planning, marketing, customer service, and policy compliance for AARP products/programs
  • Develops and manages relationships with senior executives of providers to facilitate the effective administration of the AARP programs and to continuously enhance the products or services to deliver unique value to AARP members.
  • Works closely with matrix leadership to develop strategy for new products based on 50+ and AARP member insights to deliver on AARP membership acquisition and renewal goals. Brings industry knowledge to the strategy work to ensure industry trends are incorporated appropriately.
  • Identifies new pipeline and business opportunities through current performance assessment, marketplace evaluation, consumer research and competitive analysis, while working closely with relevant departments to determine feasibility and viability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a business- or health-related field; graduate degree in business or health-related program preferred but not required.
    • 10+ years of professional work experience with the following experience desirable:
    • healthcare, and/or
    • product development and management, and/or
    • profit and loss responsibility, and/or
    • business account management, and/or
    • an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
  • Senior-level experience in relationship management, product management and business development, including negotiation experience and related skills.
  • Strong leadership, people management and supervisory skills with a proven ability to lead in a matrixed organizational structure.
  • Ability to direct multiple complex products, projects, and external vendors, building consensus and strong productive and collaborative business relationships.
  • Strong critical thinking and proficiency in applying quantitative and qualitative analytical skills to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Influences through use of facts combined with executive presence and impactful communications.
  • Independent judgement and discretion requiring the employee to compare and evaluate various courses of conduct and make a decision (or recommend a decision to be made) after various possibilities have been considered.
  • In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
