Conceived in 2011 and with a unique interdisciplinary team of faculty and staff, the Accelerator works to increase the number of STEM majors, improve retention rates of STEM students, and help STEM graduates join the workforce or continue their education.More information on the STEM Accelerator and its programs can be viewed online: https://science.gmu.edu/about/stem-accelerator.Responsibilities:Reporting to the Associate Provost for a Sustainable Earth and Exec Director of SMSC, the Director of the STEM Accelerator will centralize and organize support for diverse and active Accelerator programs, including both external and internal facing, by managing Accelerator budgets, including expenses, outreach, travel and leading workshops to advance and modernize teaching styles and pedagogy within COS and provide support to administration of LA program, advocate for expansion and integration.Specific duties include, but are not limited to:Create regular reports for COS Faculty and administration highlighting Accelerator work;Represent Accelerator at Deans, Chairs, and Directors Meetings;Contribute to grant writing and administration;Lead and contribute to education research projects, including active collaboration with LAUs;Spearhead program development of MS and PHD Discipline-based Educational Research (DBER) in COS, with Accelerator faculty leading doctoral and masters research committees;Coordinate data collection and analysis regarding programs, especially those involving the community beyond Mason;Envision and develop peer teaching evaluation protocols for COS;Coordinate with COS Communications and Marketing regarding dissemination of events, opportunities, and activities;Lead regular Accelerator meetings, oversee recording and public dissemination of meeting minutes; andSupport and facilitate expansion of the Accelerator to include representation from more departments in COS (e.g. ESP, CDS, GGS).Required Qualifications:PhD in STEM field or STEM education or equivalent combination of education and experience;Significant (generally five (5)+ years') experience teaching in higher education;Superior writing and oral communication and time-management skills;Demonstrated experience with event management and logistics;Experience with STEM education program development and implementation; andCurrent knowledge of modern STEM pedagogy, STEM education research, and assessment.Preferred Qualifications:10+ years' experience teaching in higher education;5+ years' experience in full-time college-level administration;Track record of successful grant administration and management;Ability to communicate with and manage diverse groups and individuals; andDemonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
