Event Support TechnicianGeorge Mason University invites applications for Event Support Technician positions. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The Event Support Technician is responsible for providing technical and operational support for events on the George Mason University Science and Technology Campus as well as the Potomac Science Center. This position works in direct support of students, faculty, staff, and the community at large to ensure the delivery of event support services. In addition, this position will be responsible for providing audio visual support as well as operational support for events. This position is an entry level event support position and will report to the Event Support and Audio-Visual Supervisor. This position will be expected to complete on the job training and learn all of the aspects to running a successful event. This position will be expected to work irregular work hours based on event demands which will include some evenings and weekends. Responsibilities:Provide technical support for events when needed;Provide operational support for event spaces;Ensure proper configuration, set-up, operation, monitoring and breakdown of event services equipment and other university equipment including in house A/V systems;Other duties include working directly with the Event Coordinator in planning and executing events. Additionally, working with Operations Manager, Catering, Facilities, vendors, and other George Mason University partners;Serve as an on-site contact for assigned events;Assist Event Lead Technicians with larger events;Be a trainable individual willing to learn all aspects of having a successful event; andOn occasion this position may need to work with other campuses that may be short staffed.Required Qualifications:This position is eligible to any George Mason University student or other individual that is interested in a wage position working in an event environment;Some (generally up to one (1) year) experience working in any aspect of events and a willingness to learn;This position requires a basic understanding of audio-visual components and a willingness to learn on the job;Willingness to learn the technical production aspect of events;Basic knowledge and experience in technical production and event support; understanding of event management common practices, demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and provide excellent customer service;Must show levels of social intelligence required for a successful Event Support Technician;Must be organized and pay close attention to event details provided by Event Support and Audio-Visual Supervisor;Must be a responsible individual willing to ask for help when they do not understand a task that has been assigned;Must communicate clearly and establish a positive working relationship with coworkers;Must have a basic understanding of operating a laptop computer including both Mac and PC;Must be willing to learn Event Software packages including 25Live, MS Teams, Outlook, MS Office Products, HomeBase, Zoom, YouTube Live, Facebook Live as well as others;Must exhibit the potential and ability to learn how to resolve issues by being proactive and resourceful while under pressure in an event environment; andMust have a reliable means of transportation and be willing to work at both the Sci Tech Campus and Potomac Science Center as well as potentially at other George Mason University area campuses.Preferred Qualifications:Any previous basic audio-visual experience;Any previous events experience;Any education related to AV, IT, and events;Interest in learning about events and audio-visual productions;GMU Qualified Driver; andCPR Training Certification.
