Job Description

The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for completing the entire biweekly and/or monthly payroll cycle processes in Workday for a population of 2,500 employees, comprised of Union and Non-Union workers. The primary focus is to manage and verify the input information, execute the transmittal of payroll, research and resolve any payroll related issues, and provide excellent customer service to employees. Ensures all payroll tasks are completed with adherence to internal compliance, policies, and federal, state, and local legislative requirements. Research complex payroll and taxation questions such as multi-state, global mobility, and fringe benefits and be able to document and communicate the complexity and a proposed solution. Resolves employee question timely. Uses payroll knowledge to proactively run audit and validate accuracy of preliminary pay results through the Workday payroll system.

Responsibilities
  • In coordination with fellow Payroll team members, process full cycle payroll for 1,400 biweekly and 1,100 monthly employees in two FEINs employees following standard operating procedures and checklists
  • Maintain efficient payroll processes that complies with all Federal and State regulations. Update these processes as changes occur.
  • Generate manual or on-demand checks as necessary
  • Manage all On-Cycle payroll input and internal reporting
  • Access, populate, validate, and load mass entries via EIB
  • Manage Workday business process notifications payroll tasks
  • Manage unsubmitted timesheets and late manager approvals
  • Review payroll data for errors. Run audit reports and prepare payroll preliminary reconciliation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions through electronic storage
  • Liaise with HR, on any pay related issues such as retroactive results, benefits, leaves of absence, FMLA, and special circumstances.
  • Assist with year-end projects and audits
  • Utilize ADP Smart Compliance for ancillary services such as wage payments, garnishments, unemployment compensation, and tax filings
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedural documentation for assigned tasks
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
  • Address emails from supervisors and employees regarding payroll-related matters
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications
  • 4 + years payroll experience in a multistate, multi-FEIN environment
  • Solid foundation of payroll knowledge
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Skilled on Microsoft Excel
  • Respect for confidentiality
  • Proven ability to work remotely


Preferred Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Workday Payroll processing experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with unions
  • Fundamental Payroll Practitioner (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
