As a fully integrated program and center, WGST offers a space for the exploration of social inequalities of gender, sexuality, race, class and disability across disciplinary and cultural borders through academic coursework, student development and leadership opportunities. The Women and Gender Studies program at Mason is located in close proximity to the vibrant Washington DC metropolitan area.About the Position:The Assistant Director for Women and Gender Studies is responsible for the outward facing student affairs work that is conducted by the unit. While we are an integrated structure, this position is responsible for maintaining our student leadership opportunities, programming, and cross-campus collaborations. This position is also responsible for increasing our impact on students across the university who are interested in women's, feminist, trans and queer issues, intersectional issues related to gender, and healthy masculinities.Responsibilities:Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for University Life and the Director of Women and Gender Studies, the Assistant Director will be responsible for:Representing the work of the program to University Life constituents and cabinet members;Plan and execute all center activities and events;Supervise the student center mentor team and program adviser teams (8-10 students a year);Create and continue student development and leadership opportunities for students across campus;Conduct assessment on all events, student leadership opportunities, and center usage;Collaborate with University Life constituents through programming and student development opportunities related to gender, race, and sexuality issues;Coordinate and train facilitators for our Intersectionality 101 training module;Support the academic mission of the program as needed through event planning and marketing; andCollaborate with and support the Director and Associate Director in the maintenance and spending of the Women and Gender Studies budget.Required Qualifications:Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, gender and sexuality studies, Social Work, or another related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience;Experience working in student affairs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives;Experience in supervising student staff;Demonstrated competence in collaborating with offices on initiatives related to gender for the broader campus, both within student affairs and academic programs;Demonstrated oral and communication skills; andDemonstrated competence in women and gender centers as they relate to student affairs work.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a gender related office in student affairs;Demonstrated expertise in programming related to gender-based violence, trans and queer issues, women of color and intersectional issues, and healthy masculinities; andExperience working in a co-curricular program/center.
