Coordinator for Contemporary Student ServicesThe George Mason University Division of University Life invites applicants for the position of Coordinator for Contemporary Student Services. George Mason is an institution providing tremendous opportunity for students, faculty and staff.About Contemporary Student Services:Contemporary Student Services serves to disrupt normative views and systemic obstacles of higher education to amplify the success of contemporary college students at Mason. Contemporary students are students who have had more experiences than most college students in their lives before coming to Mason. They have been working professionals, have families, and so much more. They may have experienced things a lot of other students haven't, like - being in the foster care system or in the military. They are students who don't always see themselves reflected or fully supported in college outreach materials or campus programming. This is achieved through peer advising, off-campus housing resources, and engagement opportunities for contemporary students.Responsibilities:This position is responsible for implementing initiatives that assist Contemporary students and train faculty and staff to better assist contemporary student populations.Create, implement, and sustain transfer initiatives, including Welcome2Mason, National Transfer Student Week, Tau Sigma, and other programs and initiatives to increase sense of belonging;Develop and oversee programmatic initiatives focused on increased engagement forcontemporary student populations, including student parents, adult learners, transfer students, and off-campus students;Create and sustain partnerships with campus stakeholders for programmatic and educational engagement;Oversee Gowns4Grads program;Co-chair the Contemporary Student Advisory Board;Develop and implement departmental student organizations for contemporary student populations;Coordinate, train, and partner with stakeholders across campus for enhanced programs and services for contemporary populations;Market programs and services geared toward contemporary populations;Participate in development and implementation of new departmental initiatives, including but not limited to the Student Experience Redesign projects; andServe on university committees as determined by AP/AVP/AD.Required Qualifications:Strong working knowledge of the current students' trends; and experience working with students in transitions. It is vital that candidates possess exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and have experience in database management. A qualified candidate will have highly developed organizational management and problem-solving skills and must work accurately and efficiently in order to meet a multitude of deadlines and responsibilities. Candidates will have demonstrated leadership abilities and must have a commitment to diversity and be comfortable working within diverse populations.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in higher education, management, student development or a related field or equivalent professional work experience.
