Assistant Dean for Student and Academic AffairsThe George Mason University College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Student and Academic Affairs. Further, SAA advises College and University faculty and staff on academic policies and procedures, complex student matters, instructional challenges and pedagogical enhancements, curricular development, course scheduling, and integrity and compliance efforts. See https://cehd.gmu.edu/ to learn more about the College.Responsibilities:The Assistant Dean for Student and Academic Affairs is a full-time, 12-month professional faculty member who provides leadership in the domains of student retention, academic advising, new student orientation, student enrichment and signature events, and student communications. The Assistant Dean will supervise staff in support of these functions and report to the Associate Dean for Student and Academic Affairs.The Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with CEHD Academic Program Coordinators, School and Division Directors, faculty, staff, academic advisors and our University partners to enhance the student experience, address barriers (e.g., academic integrity, mental and physical health, interpersonal conflict, academic preparedness, culture and language), and facilitate student success through the implementation of new initiatives as well as the enhancement of existing programs that promote student engagement, belonging, and retention. Further, the Assistant Dean will collaborate with the CEHD Executive, Leadership, and Administrative Teams to advance the strategic goals of the college and represent the CEHD on key and relevant university committees and work groups.In addition to providing oversight of the CEHD Student Success Center and coordinating daily operations including fiscal and personnel management, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for case management for complex student issues; adjudication of student appeals and complaints; development, review, and compliance with CEHD and Mason policies and procedures; scholarship administration; and signatory authority for academic actions and exceptions.Required Qualifications:Required qualifications include a master's degree in a relevant field with a minimum of three years of increasingly responsible professional experience in providing holistic student development support from initial enrollment through graduation OR equivalent combination of education and experience;A master's degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field is preferred;Other requirements include exceptional analytical and organizational skills, proven leadership ability, demonstrated service orientation, demonstrated written and oral communication skills, and an ability to exercise independent judgment while working in a team-oriented environment; andThe successful candidate will also have the ability to multi-task and work effectively with a diverse array of administrators, faculty and staff to address competing priorities.
