Here's what the job looks like…Responsibilities:Manages a plant staff of approximately 16 plant operations, power plant mechanics, and supervisors;Responsible for the management for all operations for the central heating and cooling plant, chillers and boilers across the university campuses, and all related infrastructure;Develops and maintains equipment overhaul, repair and maintenance systems and schedules;Serves as the subject matter expert on plant, boiler, and chiller equipment for the University;Contributes considerable knowledge and experience to project management and capital planning efforts;Plans, schedules, and supervises the operation of manual and automatic gas and electric or high temperature hot water boilers;Develop recommendations for improved efficiencies to leadership;Schedules and supervises the periodic inspection, adjusting, calibrating, and repair of heating plant equipment;Develop and maintain a 5-year plan and 10-year outlook for upgrades and replacements;Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency codes, rules, and requirements;Schedules and supervises the testing of boiler water, condensate, and water from other sources and the adding of corrective chemicals; andAbility to work flexible work shifts, including overtime.Required Qualifications:Valid Driver's License;Possession of a valid National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) First Class Power Engineer license and/or American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE);First Class Power Plant Operating Engineer license. Incumbent must keep their license current to hold this position;Possession of a First-Class Chiller Engineer license;High school graduation or equivalent with training related to the operation and maintenance of high temperature hot water generating plant;American Society of Power Engineers Power Plant 2nd Class (PO2) or equivalent required, or must obtain within 18 months of employment into position;Must have had formal training in the operation of high-pressure boilers;Mechanical Engineering degree preferred;Substantial experience managing 24-hour plant operations;Substantial experience (typically 5+ years) with boilers and any processes that involve high temperature hot water and chilled water generation; andConsiderable knowledge of all phases of the installation, repair and maintenance practices, equipment and materials used in high temp.
