Additionally, the Associate Director assists with the program development and implementation of Orientation and other programs and initiatives serving the office's mission.The position is comprised of five main components:(1) Leadership and program management for Orientation and transition programs;(2) Development and management of key stakeholder partnerships;(3) Focus on enhancing programs for special populations such as online, international, and contemporary students;(4) Program evaluation and assessment; and(5) Professional staff development and supervision of the professional staff and student Orientation team.Working together with the Director, the NSFP professional staff, and a dynamic team of student leaders, this position will assist in implementing new student Orientation for over 12,000 new students and guests annually, as well as overseeing the development and oversight of student leader team initiatives, and co-leading campus first-year programs, including Welcome2Mason. As an integral member of the NSFP management team, the Associate Director provides direction and support for a wide range of division initiatives and serves as an active ambassador for the George Mason community.Responsibilities:Coordinate and lead the development and implementation of comprehensive orientation programs for multiple populations in the Fall and Spring;Participate in and provide leadership for the development and implementation of first year programs, including providing leadership to Welcome2Mason Steering Committee;Oversee development and production of publications and all visual identity related to Orientation and new student programs, including collaboration on web and social media presence;Create and implement departmental and program assessments;Coordinate various special contemporary populations orientation sessions (Honors, International, Online, Advance, STEP, etc.);Supervise 2 Assistant Directors for Orientation and their leadership of key initiatives;Develop professional staff and para-pro development program/opportunities;Support additional departmental programming initiatives, including Family Programs, Quill Camps, and other programs as assigned;Coordinate selected academic components of orientation, including academic advising and registration;Serve as main contact for key unit stakeholders and develop partnerships for first-year experience programs and initiatives;Supervise additional undergraduate and graduate staff at the discretion of the Director; andServe on university committees and other tasks identified by VP/AVP/D.Required Qualifications:Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;Progressively responsible professional experience (generally 3-5 years) and leadership working closely with staff, undergraduate students, and/or graduate students;Exceptional working knowledge of new student programs and student transitional issues;Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with a variety of constituents and departmental stakeholders;Experience creating and managing both print and electronic and web publications;Demonstrated experience designing assessment plans, developing, executing and analyzing data and creating meaningful reports for distribution;Demonstrated leadership abilities and supervisory experience (various levels of supervision a plus- i.e. professional staff, graduate level staff and students);Experience designing, developing and executing large scale programming initiatives;Possess highly developed organizational management and problem-solving skills;Ability to meet deadlines, work accurately and quickly with attention to detail and be able to manage multiple complex programs and projects simultaneously;Ability to make independent decisions on behalf of and in conjunction with departmental, divisional and university missions and initiatives;Impeccable customer service skill;Ability to manage conflicting and competing situations;Ability to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff; andFlexibility to work evening hours and weekends, particularly during summer months, is a position requirement.Salary compensation range is Upper 60k - Lower 70k and the anticipated start date for the position is June 2022.
