Position Information
Please Note: This is currently a limited-term position expected to become permanent for Fiscal Year 2023.
The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church has various openings for new Prosecution Team Paralegals. These positions will work closely with attorneys by providing support that includes working with body worn camera (BWC) and other digital evidence, discovery requests, and trial preparation.

A background check will be conducted on all candidates who are finalists for the position. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit check and may require signing a release authorizing the County to obtain this information. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record and criminal history.
An offer of employment will be contingent upon obtaining Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and National Crime Information System (NCIS) certification within the first four months of employment.

These positions will work closely with attorneys by providing support that includes working with body worn camera (BWC) and other digital evidence, discovery requests, and trial preparation.
Specific duties include:
- Preparing discovery orders and maintaining discovery logs;
- Sending discovery to defense counsel, and pulling discovery in advance of a trial;
- Confirming all law enforcement reports are in a case file;
- Ensuring redaction of police and other law enforcement reports;
- Requesting priors and conducting criminal background checks for witnesses;
- Uploading BWC and/or other digital evidence missing from case files;
- Preparing trial binders and exhibits; and
- Performing other tasks as needed.
Selection Criteria
Minimums:
- High school diploma or GED;
- Completion of a paralegal certificate program recognized by the American Bar Association; and
- One year experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretary.
Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates who have the following experience:
- Working in a criminal justice or court system environment;
- Docket management;
- Using Prosecutor by Karpel (PBK) or similar case management software;
- Using Axon Evidence.com software for uploading body worn camera (BWC) video; and/or
- Using Microsoft Office Word and Outlook.
