Term Assistant Professor/Instructor, GeographyThe George Mason University Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science (GGS) invites applications for a Term Assistant Professor/Instructor position beginning August 2022. The typical instructional workload is four courses per semester with an option to teach a course during the summer. The selected candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach courses in physical geography, from broad introductory levels to more specific sub-disciplines at the graduate and upper-level undergraduate levels. Additional courses will be determined in consultation with the department and can include topics in environmental geography, geoinformation technology/GIS, human geography, and regional specializations. Teaching modalities will include both in-person and online, and possibly hybrid courses. The selected candidate is also expected to participate in departmental service as needed.Required Qualifications:Ph.D. in geography, or a closely related field is required for the Term Assistant Professor position;M.S. in geography, or a closely related field is required for the Term Instructor position; andAbility to teach physical geography courses.Preferred Qualifications:Teaching experience at the college level;Teaching experience in varied modalities (in-person, hybrid, synchronous, and asynchronous online);Ability to teach other geographic topics (environment, geoinformation, human, regional);Ability in departmental service (advising, outreach, etc.); andExperience with undergraduate or graduate student mentoring or research.
