This Digital Project Manager position is in the Digital Services unit in Digital Strategy and Membership. The position plans and implements assigned projects, determine resources needed, track budgets, determines scope and execution, tracks progress towards milestones, establishes timelines, and evaluates progress. This position manages project teams to deliver on project goals, creates communication plans, and informs stakeholders on processes and impact. The Manager collaborates with management to identify opportunities to streamline processes and develop new procedures that support the business unit/department.


  • Identifies, coordinates, and manages stakeholders and resources for digital projects (including budgets). Identifies key decisions and risks, and facilitates their solutions.
  • Creates and manages multiple work streams for a program/project, coordinating across teams and dependencies within and among projects to meet delivery deadlines. Plans and carries out quality tests and checks on digital deliverables, troubleshoot issues and work with technical staff to resolve problems.
  • Leads groups of subject matter experts in discussions and problem-solving activities to advance the delivery of scalable and efficient digital solutions. Partners with design and technical staff to translate business needs into application and operational requirements.
  • Looks for creative solutions that satisfy the business needs and align with our digital strategy, platforms, and best practices. Articulates and executes digital strategies that support business deliverables.
  • Manages stakeholder communications and expectations throughout the process. Creates and maintains project plans and accompanying documentation, including a formal project plan and written business communications.
  • Utilizes knowledge of digital technology to organize and execute work with technical and business teams, including large-scale content management systems, industry-standard identity and security solutions, and mobile solutions.


  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant work experience, including digital program, project or product management, and client management experience for a large, consumer-facing organization.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in managing multiple complex projects concurrently. PMI or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build, maintain and nurture strong, productive working relationships internally and externally.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to document a range of outputs such as business requirements, status reports, and presentations in a variety of formats (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, etc.) to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task required.
  • Experience with established, large-scale content management systems (e.g., AEM).
  • Familiarity with digital user identity management (login & registration) and Adobe Analytics is a plus, as well as familiarity with project and/or task management systems (such as Confluence, Basecamp, Jira).
  • Ability to bring a strategic mindset to the development of consumer experiences.
  • This is an in-office position and the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise level is required.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
