Dewberry is currently seeking an experienced Maintenance Field Engineer and/or Technician for their Fairfax, VA office

Entry Level and Transitioning Military Candidates Welcome! Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

POSITION:

Several positions available: Entry / Junior / Mid-Level Field Technician working as a Maintenance Field Engineer or Technician. Responsible for the troubleshooting, general operation, and maintenance of all building equipment and systems. General knowledge of installation and repair of all phases of HVAC, controls, telecom, and electrical systems, especially in Government buildings. Ancillary systems such as access control, intrusion detection system, fire alarms, and elevator will be included but to a lesser extent.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and repairs of existing buildings systems, support for upgrades on same systems, and operation and documentation of what systems exist in the building. Most of the work is performed at client location in Alexandria, VA. Team members will focus on one system type, such as HVAC, controls, or electrical, but will be expected to have some basic level in all areas.
  • HVAC focus area is responsible for troubleshooting, inventorying, and repairing/upgrading of the central plant equipment, major air handlers, and terminal units. After upgrades will operate the plant until permanent maintenance staff is trained. This individual will have an active role in the training. The Engineer performs service requests, preventive maintenance, equipment/system repair and equipment/system replacement work orders as assigned. In addition, the Engineer inspects all major equipment/ systems at least twice during each shift for proper operation, recording the operating parameters in the equipment readings log; performs maintenance/repair and/or initiates appropriate corrective action or assistance as required in the event of equipment/system malfunctions to insure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of all facility equipment/ systems.
  • Controls focus area is responsible for troubleshooting, inventorying, and repairing/upgrading of all controls building wide. After upgrades will operate the plant until permanent maintenance staff is trained. This individual will have an active role in the training. The Engineer performs service requests, preventive maintenance, equipment/system repair and equipment/system replacement work orders as assigned. In addition, the Engineer inspects all major equipment/ systems at least twice during each shift for proper operation, with a focus on communications to field controllers.
  • Electrical focus area is responsible for troubleshooting, inventorying, and repairing/upgrading of automatic transfer switches, generators, and metering equipment. No other electrical scope will be included in the focus. After upgrades will operate the same equipment until permanent maintenance staff is trained. This individual will have an active role in the training. The Engineer performs service requests, preventive maintenance, equipment/system repair and equipment/system replacement work orders as assigned. In addition, the Engineer inspects all major equipment/ systems at least twice monthly for proper operation.
  • Ancillary systems such as telecom will be addressed as needed. Individuals with experience are asked to highlight these as they are not focus areas.


Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Ability to pass an extensive background analysis.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Basic computer skills necessary to operate Building Automation Systems / Direct Digital Controls
  • Availability for various shifts and to occasionally work extended hours, nights, weekends and holiday to ensure adequate coverage and perform necessary repairs
  • Strong communication, administrative and organizational skills
  • Hands on mechanical aptitude, commiserate with experience
  • Good communication skills and customer service attitude
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Desire to move up within the organization by demonstrating skill and drive in the tasks assigned.
  • Desire to learn or the ability to read blue print diagrams.
  • Ability to climb an 8 foot ladder and be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Basic knowledge of DDC systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work in a government environment, previous experience working in a government facility preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good attitude and ability to be a team player
  • High school diploma required
  • AS or BS College Degree, or certification in a focus area is preferred

The ideal candidates will demonstrate expertise in:
  • Efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all building systems including:
  • HVAC systems
  • Water treatment programs
  • Electrical systems
  • Lighting systems
  • Plumbing systems
  • Energy management
  • Fire protection
  • Life Safety systems
  • Direct Digital Controls/Building Automation System - Niagara Certification is preferred
  • Following inspection and service procedures outlined in preventative maintenance
  • Demonstrating exemplary customer and staff relations while working closely with tenants, vendors and Property Management teams
  • Pursuing employee development objectives recommended by the Operations Manager, Lead Engineer and/or Property Manager
  • Complying with all applicable safety codes, regulations, governmental agency and company directives as they relate to building operations
  • Currently or previously holding a CAC, and/or a Secret or Top Secret clearance

This position includes a competitive hourly rate depending on skill set and experience. Paid time off, Health Insurance, 401K, & Job Specific Training
  • Junior Level position: 2-4 years of related experience
  • Mid-Level: 5+ years of experience


Pay: $45,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year

Schedule:
  • Will vary, typically Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm. Some weeks will require night shift or weekend work. These will be scheduled in advance.
