Overview

AARP's Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) champions the dignity and rights of vulnerable Washington, D.C. seniors 60-plus, providing free legal and social work services to those in need - empowering, defending, protecting, and helping thousands of clients each year in many areas of civil law.

Are you a communications, digital, advertising, or public relations student with solid social media, writing, and Adobe Premiere skills? Are you creative, passionate, and results-driven? Legal Counsel for the Elderly's (LCE) Communications team is looking for you! Our team drives the internal and external communications for LCE, including traditional media and social media relations, video production, advertising, and several internal communique.

As an intern, you will apply strategic and creative thinking to promote LCE's services and successes to all stakeholders. On any given day, you could be writing an internal communications piece, researching the social media environment and preparing posts, or shooting and editing short videos. We'll challenge you to think and work in new ways. We are committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This internship has an expected summer start date and will go to the end of the year.

Responsibilities

  • Apply innovative thinking and problem-solving to challenges
  • Identify strategies for promoting our services and successes
  • Curate social media and traditional media content
  • Create appropriate support media for posts

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • AARP/LCE also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers; this may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • Writing and graphic samples for social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube)
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new platforms, such as Microsoft Teams
  • In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise


Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
