Research Assistant Professor, Agro-Geoinformation SciencesThe George Mason University, Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems (CSISS) invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor position. For more information about the center, please visit http://csiss.gmu.edu/.Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for conducting funded research on agro-geoinformation science and Agro-AI/ML. This position is full-time with benefits. The initial appointment will be for one year, and is subject to annual renewal based on performance and the availability of funding. The incumbent will work with a multidisciplinary team from collaborative institutes and organizations to develop algorithms, methods, systems, and information products for using remote sensing and geospatial information in agriculture and related environment. Duties include, but are not limited to: Work under the direction of Principle Investigator to design, develop, and implement the agro-informatic decision support system of systems through integrating the capabilities and systems of remote sensing, geospatial, and modeling systems;Actively work with the PI and collaborators in preparing and publishing the research results in scientific journals and conferences;Actively contribute to the development of extramural funding proposals; andSupervising and advising graduate students in the project team.Required Qualifications:The candidate must have successfully completed a Ph.D. in Geoinformation Sciences or closely related field prior to the state date of the appointment;Experience in agro-geoinformatics with strong programming experience;Working knowledge of agro-informatic cyberinfrastructures; Experience in using databases for managing GIS and agricultural information;Working experience on Agro-AI/ML; andExcellent oral and written communication skills in English.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Web-based geographic information system design and development; Experience in using Java, C/C++, Python or other languages for scientific programming and processing geographic information system (GIS) data and agro-informatic applications; Geospatial data understanding and analytics in the cloud computing environment;Experience with Open-Source geospatial software packages, e.g. GDAL and OSGeo packages;Familiar with open specifications for geospatial metadata, data Web services and catalogue services of OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) and ISO TC 211;Experiences with full-stack development for decision support systems in the Web environment; andHands-on experience with open geospatial Web service standards and specifications.Special Instructions to Applicants: For full consideration, applicants must apply for position number F524AZ at http://jobs.gmu.edu/; complete and submit the online application; and upload (1) a cover letter, (2) an up-to-date curriculum vitae, and (3) the names of three to five professional references with their contact information, including e-mail addresses.
