JOB SUMMARY The Air Force Association is seeking an experienced development professional with a proven track record of success - highly passionate, highly intelligent, focused, and well-organized, who wants to be part of our fast-growing, organization in the veteran-focused non-profit industry.As the Senior Director of Development, you are tasked with providing broad and varied oversight to the Development team to ensure the success of the fund development program. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director of Development (SD) will carry out The Air Force Association's mission by managing all aspects of the annual, corporate foundation, and private foundation giving in support of meeting the organization's strategic and operational goals. Responsibilities will include developing, implementing, and evaluating fund development strategies that will meaningfully engage donors and provide diverse, sustainable revenue streams to support and grow the work of AFA.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Development Operations (approximate 65% of effort): Working with the Chief Development Officer set annual goals for all aspects of the Annual Fund, including Annual Giving Campaigns, Major Gift Programs, Foundation and Corporate Grants, and Resource Development EventsDevelop and implement a comprehensive, written, Annual Fund development planDirect Annual Fund cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activitiesProject and manage Annual Fund expensesOversee Resource Development team as needed in order to maximize overall fundraising revenue, organizational visibility, and the mission of AFA.Oversee management of Development Department calendar to ensure that all deadlines and goals are met.PROGRAM SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (approximate 30% of effort): Annual Giving Campaign Working with Development staff, direct and manage all aspects of comprehensive and strategic Annual Giving (AG) Campaigns, including direct mail and online giving solicitationsIn cooperation with the Communications Department, develop and produce materials for AG campaignsPlan and execute all AG campaign solicitations with the objectives of communicating AFA mission, renewing and increasing donor gifts, and acquiring new donorsWorking with the Manger of Development use the AG campaign to develop a pipeline of prospects for AFA Major Gifts Program by researching, identifying, and cultivating prospects for the next level of givingDirect all AG campaign donor acknowledgment: including written, phone, and in-person stewardshipOversee the Development Manager in managing the Annual Giving Club ensuring appropriate donor recognition, acknowledgment, outreach, and events to provide meaningful opportunities for donors to engage with AFA to maximize donor retention.Grants Coordinating with all areas of AFA identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate grants to maintain existing corporate partnerships and develop a new pipeline of support for the mission and programs of AFA through expanding corporate outreach with organizations supportive of the work of AFAPrepare and submit grant applications to private foundations, prioritizing reoccurring grants from established donorsOversee Development Coordinator in researching private grant application processes, updates, and grant reportingResource Development Events Coordinate across AFA to plan implement, and direct development events in order to meet fundraising, donor acquisition, cultivation, stewardship, and community engagement goals for major community partnersWork in cooperation with AFA's Communications Department to create and produce event-related materials and promotionPlan and direct all event-related acknowledgments and stewardshipIdentify new prospective donors through their event participationCoordinate with all event support staff and volunteersOther Duties as assigned (approximately 5% of effort): . Other duties as projects as assigned.WORKING CONDITIONS: Operates in a professional office environment with travel to local offices, community partners, and eventsRoutinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax.Office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, subject to modification based on the needs of each program or sitePhysical Demands: The position requires sedentary work (sitting most of the time with no adverse environmental exposure) and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The position also includes the following physical requirements:Movement. The employee in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.The employee in this position needs to be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machineries such as a copy machine and printer.The employee is required to communicate and hold verbal conversations with others by means of the spoken word. Undergraduate degree.. 15+ years minimum experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, and grant writing.
