Director, Cost Accounting The George Mason University Controller's Office is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced accountant to serve as our next Director of Cost Accounting. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Position Description: The Director of Cost Accounting is responsible for preparing the triennial federal Facilities and Administrative (F&A) cost proposal, the biennial indirect cost submission to the state, and annual fringe benefit rate proposal, including related audits and rate agreement negotiations. The Director will also oversee the university's recharge policy and chair the recharge committee. The Director will contribute to policies and procedures, providing cost accounting expertise and advice to related university offices and processes while enhancing efficiency. The position is also responsible for maintaining books and accounting practices for the George Mason Research Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) component unit of the university. Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience;Significant accounting experience (typically 5+) in a large, complex organization or a public accounting practice serving large, complex organizations;Extensive knowledge of cost accounting methods, including facilities and administrative rate procedures;Proven analytical skills to evaluate application of accounting principles, indirect cost allocation alternatives, and ability to synthesize results of analysis for an executive audience;Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain books and accounting practices for component organizations;Excellent written and oral communication skills, flexibility, attention to detail and ability to weigh costs and benefits of processes and controls;Demonstrated ability to present accounting concepts to non-financial audience, including executive briefings, board participation, and educational sessions with colleagues.Preferred Qualifications:CPA or Masters degree;Experience in large research university;Experience interacting with DCAA auditors in a university or government contractor setting;Experience interpreting and applying regulatory accounting standards, such as CASB, GASB, FASB OMB Uniform Guidance, FAR;Experience in public accounting serving governmental or not-for-profit organizations.
