Join the Park Authority and our nationally recognized team of professionals! Jefferson District Park and Golf Course, owned and operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA), is seeking an Assistant General Manager to be a part of one of the most highly-regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level.

Under the supervision of the General Manager, assists in the operation of a 9-hole executive golf course and its associated facilities, which include an 18-hole miniature golf course, tennis and basketball courts. Directs the operation of the pro shop and food and beverage centers. Directs all special events and tournaments at the site. Directs the hiring, training, supervising and evaluation of all part time clubhouse employees. Assists in the marketing efforts of the site with the cooperation of site and agency staff. Conducts routing inventories of all non-sale and resale items in the golf course pro shop and food and beverage center. Completes purchase requests and procurement card purchases for the park’s operations. Implements and maintains the site’s customer service program. The appointee will be expected to work a flexible schedule that may include overtime and weekends.

General Duties
  • Assists in the administration of the facility operations such as conducting inventory, preparing administrative and financial reports, and assisting in the preparation of the annual operating budget;
  • Assists in the ordering and receiving of supplies;
  • Assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of staff and volunteers;
  • Adheres to revenue and expense limits;
  • Ensures staff compliance with operating procedures and safety/security standards;
  • Informs the public of pertinent rules and regulations;
  • Directs residents to private and public resources and programs;
  • Assists in the development and implementation of community outreach plans to target
  • underserved populations and to increase overall program participation;
  • Delivers customer service by distributing literature and providing information;
  • Assists as a liaison between County agencies and residents.
Operations
  • Assists with providing operational support by supervising the maintenance of assigned facilities.
Programming
  • Assists with providing Parks/Recreation programming support by
  • developing and coordinating several specialized programs and special events;
  • Maintains records necessary to the operation and evaluation of programs.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of fiscal record keeping and inventory procedures;
  • Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and peripheral equipment;
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of subordinate staff and volunteers;
  • Ability to prepare a variety of administrative reports;
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, citizen groups, and the public;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:
Graduation from high school or a GED issued by a state department of education, plus two years of related experience in a recreation center, recreational park, or golf course operation or two years experience organizing and coordinating public recreation activities or community affairs, as applicable to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with G1 GolfNow software. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software. Experience with the recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling of paid and volunteer staff. Experience with planning and scheduling various golf tournaments and other special events. Experience in golf course food and beverage operations or other related facility. Strong customer service skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of Fairfax County Park Authority (or similar recreation system) operations and processes.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Driver's License (Required)
  • CPR/First Aid (Required within 3 months)
  • Food Services Manager Certification required within 90 days of appointment

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or religious reasons will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Otherwise, vaccinated employees will complete the attestation online in the first day of employment.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, child protective services registry check and driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. A ll duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
