Duties

Performs and/or assists in operation and maintenance of the Fitness and Sports program and facilities. Conducts, teaches and leads group exercises classes. Prepares choreographed routine for each class. Demonstrates a command of effective class format, leadership skills, and sensitivity to all levels of fitness. Ensures all equipment and supplies are accessible prior to classes beginning. Demonstrates knowledge in exercise physiology, kinesiology, injury prevention, cardiovascular and medical considerations, nutrition, and body composition. Assists Fitness Center Director, Fitness Program Specialist and Sports Specialist with programs and function providing support for activities. Enforces customer access and priority IA W established procedures and regulatory guidance. Establishes schedules of events as well as the rules and regulations to be observed. Types of duties include, but are not limited to the following: issues, receives, cleans _and maintains equipment; safely demonstrates equipment and techniques of various fitness and sports activities; sets up areas for daily use, sports events, tournaments, and practice games when such assignments require a practical knowledge of the rules and procedures of such activities; inspects sports facilities and equipment for security and general conditions, performing cleaning duties as required to ensure safe operating conditions; and schedules areas for use, with responsibility for seeing that they are vacated or returned in good order; performs fitness assessments and evaluations. Provides customers with information on available classes and programs, answering questions, phone calls, providing orientation of facility layout and equipment location. Perfom1s safety inspections to include Fire, Safety, Public Health, etc. Prepares, submits, receives and accounts for supply orders. Evaluates playing conditions and coordinates with coaches and officials to determine postponements. Accomplishes, submits, responds to and follow-up on work orders. Secures facilities and equipment. Collects user fees in the form of cash and credit transactions, processes cash accountability paperwork; safeguards funds and equipment. Operates government vehicles in the course of daily duties. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Applicant must have experience which provided a working familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in group activities or programs; and practical knowledge and/or experience of recreational activities and equipment, rules and procedures in a recreation program activity which has involved recreation work in the area of specialty in which the position is assigned. Must have and maintain and Air Force accepted group exercise certification or personal training certification IAW current guidance/regulation requirement. Experience instructing group exercise is highly desirable. Must obtain certification in Adult CPR, First Aid and AED within 30 days of appointment and maintain as current thereafter. Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing 100 pounds or more. Must be able to continuously stand, bend, stoop, and reach for long periods of time. Must satisfactorily complete pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Position requires current state drivers' license. "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use."

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Additional information

  • According to Executive Order 14043, "Guidance on Applying Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination Requirements to New Hires": New Department of the Air Force civilian employees must be fully vaccinated by their entry on duty (start) date or November 22, 2021, whichever is later. If a new hire intends to request a medical or religious exemption, the start date will be delayed until the exemption process is complete and applicant is either approved for an exemption, or becomes fully vaccinated.
