Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, Assistant Secretary- Land and Minerals (ASLM) in Washington, DC.

At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs administrative and technical functions in support of the ASLM, including carrying out special and confidential assignments requiring a professional manner, tact and diplomacy, and a comprehensive knowledge of the initiatives, policies and functions of the office.
  • Plans documents and manages long-range calendars, anticipates and plans for requirements and manages schedules, exercising control over appointments, work schedules and speaking engagements, with complete authority for commitments of time.
  • Coordinates agenda and invitations for regularly scheduled meetings and ad hoc meetings chaired by the Senior level official.
  • Reviews correspondence written by others for the supervisor's signature or review to assure that it is consistent with DOI policy and program positions and appropriate for the superior's signature or surname.
  • Develops, coordinates, writes and implements policy and guidance pertaining to administrative procedures and directives.
  • Gathers information related to a wide variety of program issues, and assembles and analyzes this data as it relates to the needs of the Senior level official.
  • Acts an as authority on federal travel regulations, makes necessary travel arrangements for the ASLM and Executive Leadership Team, collects receipts, and prepares travel vouchers and reports and initiates reimbursement for travel expenses using Concur.
  • The Office of the Secretary has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

    Salary Range Information:
    GS-11: $74,950 - $97,430 per annum
    GS-12: $ 89,834 - $ 116,788 per annum
    First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level.

    This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience or acceptable substitution described for the grade to which you are applying.

    Specialized Experience


    To qualify for the GS-11, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience with the following:

    1. Experience reviewing executive correspondence to include proofing, editing, preparing correspondence for signature, and tracking the status of documents;
    2. Experience participating in the development of administrative processes and procedures to facilitate administrative activities for an office; and
    3. Experience preparing agendas, reports, and briefing materials for meetings of high-level executives.
    Must meet all three.

    Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

    -OR-

    Combination of education and experience: Possess a combination of post high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

    To qualify for the GS-12, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience with the following:

    1. Experience managing executive correspondence to include proofing, editing, preparing correspondence for signature, and tracking the status of documents;
    2. Experience monitoring, coordinating, providing information, and developing administrative processes and procedures to facilitate administrative activities for an office;
    3. Experience preparing agendas, reports, and briefing materials for meetings of high-level executives; and
    4. Experience maintaining confidentiality on controversial and/or sensitive matters for business activities at the senior management level.
    Must meet all four.
