The Medical/Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist is a Registered Nurse with a graduate degree in nursing or other relevant degree program (MS, MPH, DNP, PhD, etc.) who is able to apply advanced knowledge relating to acute and chronic medical surgical illness, focusing on complex conditions and vulnerable patient populations. She/he is involved with consulting, teaching, research, management, and clinical practice. She/he facilitates bridging the gap between research and practice ensuring quality and safe patient care both directly and indirectly. The core competencies of this specialty serve the needs of the patient and family in this health care population across the lifespan. Position involves other clinical and educational duties relevant to needs of the Medical/Surgical clinical areas.
