Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a collaborative and innovative projects editor to join the Emerging News Products team, which is responsible for incubating products and consulting with teams across the newsroom and business side on new content areas and platform investments.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, well-organized strategic thinker who has a passion for working collaboratively and facilitating experimentation. They enjoy diving into the details, analyzing data to find insights and putting all pieces together to turn ideas into reality. They love figuring out how to maximize impact with new and existing audiences. A knack for identifying emerging technologies and trends and the desire to experiment early and often are necessary, as is the willingness to take responsible risks and advocate for new ideas.

In this spirit, we are seeking a versatile journalist who can dissect analytics, build and launch experiments, shape multichannel strategies, conduct market research and do competitive analysis in a fast-paced environment. Working closely with the director and editor, along with other journalists and editors across the newsroom, the projects editor will be responsible for shepherding pitches from conception to launch while also collaborating with partners across the company, including those in engineering, product, design, marketing and advertising, to bring ideas to fruition.

Top candidates have a track record of developing short, mid- and long-term KPIs for editorial experiments and products. A thorough knowledge of the emerging media landscape as well as hands-on experience with social and distributed platforms is key to the role. Strong organizational and communication skills are required, as is the ability to juggle multiple initiatives at once. Prior experience with project management, SEO or reporting is a plus.

Emerging News Products has pitched, shaped and launched products including The Washington Post's Select app, The Lily , By The Way and The 7 . Our experiments and subsequent learnings in such areas as curation, design, newsletters, briefings and vertical storytelling are now playing a key role in The Post's evolution.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
