Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a collaborative and innovative editor to join the Emerging News Products team, which is responsible for incubating products and consulting with teams across the newsroom and business side on new content areas and platform investments.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented strategic thinker who enjoys editing and writing in a variety of formats and styles. We want a journalist who is equally passionate about developing new products and bolstering our current offerings. A knack for identifying emerging technologies and trends and the drive to experiment early and often are necessary, as are the desire to work closely with others and the willingness to take responsible risks and advocate for new ideas.

We are seeking a versatile journalist who can source, write, assign and edit for a wide variety of experiments and assignments in a fast-paced environment. Working closely with the director and projects editor, along with other journalists and editors across the newsroom, this editor will be responsible for shepherding pitches from conception to launch while also collaborating with partners across the company, including those in engineering, product, design, marketing and advertising, to bring ideas to fruition.

Top candidates have a track record of successfully developing and launching editorial products. A demonstrated ability to build editorial strategies, establish best practices and implement streamlined workflows is necessary. Strong organizational and communication skills are required, as is the ability to juggle multiple initiatives at once. Experience with team leadership, project management, user analysis, social media, newsletters or distributed platforms is a plus.

Emerging News Products has pitched, shaped and launched products including The Washington Post's Select app, The Lily , By The Way and The 7 . Our experiments and subsequent learnings in such areas as curation, design, newsletters, briefings and vertical storytelling are now playing a key role in The Post's evolution.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.

Those interested should upload a résumé and cover letter explaining your strengths and experience creating projects or launching products to our jobs portal by Feb. 14.
