DevOps Engineer

Capital One Services has an opening for a DevOps Engineer in our Organization. As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for leading, and ensuring that Capital One best practices and methodologies are applied to the design, deployment and operations. You must possess strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, automation, and exposure to various CI/CD principles and be able to apply this knowledge to manage the cloud based infrastructure. The candidate will primarily act in a DevOps role for a document management application with responsibilities to improve software-defined network maturity and drive efficiencies through automation. You will be responsible to provide technical guidance and leadership internally and to partner teams to drive solutions. You will provide design and deployment guidance. You should have experience with and a strong knowledge of Incident, Problem and Change management processes. You will drive technical resolution of High Severity and Low Severity Incidents.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and support automation and scripting solutions to drive new capabilities, visibility, and efficiency for a document management application.
  • Position requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written since position's audience includes technical, project and business resources
  • Communicates to business and technical partners on incidents as they occur when they impact system performance or availability
  • Collaborate with other Tech platforms and partners to engineer an integrated, end-to-end support frameworks across technology layers
  • Establishing cross-training initiatives within the team to provide enhanced automated support capabilities
  • Support and perform testing required to ensure successful implementation of solutions into Production
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance around DevOps best practices
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual deployment and validation efforts and drive zero touch automation
  • Manage and govern relationships with technology vendors utilized in the application
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and enterprise security configuration standards.
  • Provide direct support of audit and ad hoc consulting engagements
  • Look for opportunities for cost savings on our cloud resources
  • Ongoing on the job training and self study professional development
  • Production support and make sure the system is up and running



Successful candidates will possess:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document solutions, present ideas to cross-functional teams, and explain operational issue background and root cause to vendors and senior leaders
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of cloud based solutions and services in AWS
  • A solid understanding of what comprises a scalable, robust, supportable design
  • A passion to drive automation, scripting, machine learning, and self healing
  • A bias toward action, along with an internal drive for continuous improvement
  • A passion for teamwork
  • Ability to work in a flexible work environment that embraces rapid change, emphasizes continuous learning, and attacks new challenges
  • Ability to adequately discuss technical issues with technicians, engineers, architects and vendors.
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated team that is geographically dispersed, as well as work independently as required
  • Experience with Linux
  • Familiarity utilizing REST APIs
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code methodologies and tools
  • Proficient knowledge of common DevOps tools Git/Github, Jenkins, and Containers
  • Proficient Java programming skills with object-oriented design principles


This position is a DevOps role. As such, periodic late night maintenance work and participation in an on-call rotation will be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent certification
  • At least 3 years experience deploying and supporting automation solutions
  • At least 2 years experience with AWS
  • At least 2 years experience building and deploying software with Jenkins and Git
  • At least 1 year experience deploying applications with Docker
  • At least 1 year experience building Linux Commands



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years experience with AWS
  • 2+ years experience building Linux Commands
  • 1+ year experience with monitoring tools Splunk, Datadog or Newrelic
  • 1+ year experience with CI/CD pipeline principles
  • 1+ year experience programming with Java or Node Js
  • 1+ year experience with Terraform or CFT
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification or AWS Developer Associate Certification
