Principal Risk Specialist - Program Management

As a Principal Associate at Capital One you'll be responsible for working with business partners to identify process enhancements to create efficiencies, maintain program methodology, collaborate and interact cross functionally with other compliance departments. You will be a crucial piece in maintaining an industry leading compliance governance program. This role requires highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational and communication skills.

A successful candidate will have a strong understanding of compliance transaction and control testing methodologies, basic experience in and experience with project management tools, a key mind for innovation, an outstanding ability to communicate and the drive to create and maintain a variety of compliance deliverables including program training, updates to workpaper platforms, and policy management.

Core responsibilities:
  • Maintain and improve independent testing methodology and program practices.
  • Design, create and/or aid in maintenance of program governance documents, including guidance, training, work paper platform design, tools and templates.
  • Collaborate with other entities, such as Enterprise Risk Management to apply enterprise driven changes to local policies, procedures, reporting mechanisms, training and processes.
  • Assist in maintaining annual planning and calendaring activities for the Testing and Validation program.
  • Assist in Board reporting activities.
  • Use critical and creative thinking skills to identify improvement opportunities, root causes, and provide recommendations that drive value.
  • Develop and maintain project plans for various testing initiatives, including developing internal innovation initiatives for Testing and validation governance and oversight.
  • Manage program communication to testing teams and upper management to ensure stakeholders are well informed on major updates and program document revisions.
  • Assist in collection and response drafting for internal and external audit and exam requests.
  • Meet aggressive deadlines and pivot effectively between multiple projects.
  • Support or drive other relevant projects as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degreeor Military experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in risk management or 2 years of experience in corporate compliance
  • At least 2 years of Financial Services experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in transactional or control testing environment
  • At least 1 year of experience with Google Docs, and Google Sheets, and Google Drive

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1 year of experience in business information management
  • 1 year of experience in second line compliance governance
  • 1 year of experience dealing with information retention policy and procedures
  • 2 years of process management experience in risk management
  • 3 years of experience in the financial industry
  • Basic experience using third party applications such as Workiva or Governance, Risk Management & Compliance GRC
