Position Title: Development and Communications ManagerReports to: Chief Communications and Development OfficerThe Development and Communications Manager will work closely with the Chief Communications and Development Officer. This role will be an integral part of our team and will advance the organization's mission by helping to build our base of support, increase awareness of our brand and programs, and drive donor engagement in our fundraising initiatives.About Air Force Aid SocietyThe Air Force Aid Society is a 4-star Charity Navigator rated nonprofit organization. Founded in 1942, the Air Force Aid Society's mission is to help relieve the financial distress of Air Force and Space Force members and their families and assist them in achieving their educational goals and improving their quality of life by providing proactive programs. In 2020 alone, the Air Force Aid Society provided over $12.5 million in assistance to more than 26,000 Airmen, Guardians, and their families, through emergency assistance, educational and community programs. Headquartered in Arlington, Va., the Air Force Aid Society administers assistance through Airman and Family Readiness Centers around the world and maintains cross-servicing agreements with the Army Emergency Relief, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief, the Coast Guard Mutual Assistance and the American Red Cross to offer emergency assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.ResponsibilitiesMicrosoft Dynamics 365 Fundraising and Engagement CRM - Oversees all aspects of data input and integrity, data management and strategy, and data analysis for the database. Collaborate with gift processor to ensure accurate and timely gift entry to provide prompt gift acknowledgment and recognition follow up. Will also be a primary manager of the online donor platform, which includes donation forms, automated trigger email communication.Microsoft Dynamics Marketing Management - The Development and Communications Manager will also be a primary manager for email communication. Work with the team to develop content that is consistent with the organization's brand, mission, and messaging.U.S. Air Force Charity Ball - Serves as the Society's lead event contact with the charity ball committee, including attending meetings, managing the charity ball database, financial reconciliation, data importing/exporting, corporate/organizational donations, in-kind donations, all receipting, acknowledgments, tracking actions and contacts.Air Force Assistance Fund - Assist as needed on the annual Air Force Assistance Fund fundraising campaign.Major Gift - Manage major giving program and support efforts to secure planned gifts. This includes developing prospect research, data analysis and strategy development, and organizing periodic donor cultivation and stewardship events.Estate Administration - Manage the collection, administration, and allocation of realized estate gifts to the Society - for example, gifts by will or trust, retirement funds, payable on death accounts, life insurance, gifts of securities, etc. Work directly with executors, trustees, other fiduciary/financial custodians, and internal Society staff to ensure the proper processing of estate gifts. Support other aspects of gift planning services as assigned. Ensure courteous, accurate, and timely responses and reporting to internal and external constituencies.Donor Engagement & Appeals - Oversee all aspects of donor engagement, increase individual giving through donor solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship strategies. Independent coordination of direct mail and email appeals, which includes managing specific donor segments and the year-end Annual Fund donor appeal campaign. This includes sending year-end donation receipts/statements.Donor Stewardship Reports - Produce timely donor updates and donor stewardship reports as needed.Annual Report - Manage the creative development, design/layout, writing and overall production timeline and distribution of the Society's annual report.Financial Reporting - Responsible for working directly with finance on month-end close to ensure donations and General Ledger are accurate.Matching Gifts - Primary contact for managing the matching gift program to ensure that donor gifts are accurately reflected in the database and working with corporations and organizations to ensure gifts are received. This includes maintaining relationships with the donors and matching gift companies and periodic follow-up regarding the status of donations to ensure that all parties are aware of current matching gift policies.Miscellaneous - May assist with other duties as determined by the Chief Communications and Development Officer. Provides support to the Society's Board as needed.Skills/QualificationsA bachelor's degree required, along with a minimum 3 years of experience specifically in fundraising, development, and communications. Understanding of Microsoft Dynamics, Raiser's Edge, Luminate Online a plus (or an equivalent web-based marketing communications platform - is strongly preferred). Demonstrated experience with direct mail solicitation, donor stewardship strategy, prospect research, fundraising events and volunteer coordination will be helpful in this role. Highly organized, thorough, and detailed-oriented. Great organizational and time management skills. Impeccable writing. Demonstrated track record with using a variety of fundraising techniques. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience developing promotional materials such as brochures, fact sheets and newsletters.
