Assist with coordination of the Montgomery Parks Plogging Volunteer Program, participate in special/seasonal events (examples include Earth Month, Community Service Week, and National Public Lands Day), and aid in additional projects and programs that involve the VSO. Also have the opportunity to work with the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (MC-DEP), non-profit organization partners, watershed groups, and Stream Strider volunteers.A successful candidate works well independently and as part of a team, is organized, and has interest and knowledge in one or more of the following fields:Volunteer servicePublic outreachParks & recreationProgram administrationData managementRecyclingEnvironmental education and social justiceWatershed scienceStormwater pollutionLitter issuesStream ecology Examples of Important Duties The successful candidate will support the Volunteer Services Office and its Stream & Park Cleanups programs as described in the above Job Description and is expected to:Coordinate the Montgomery Parks Plogging (picking up trash while jogging/walking) Volunteer Program.Work with MC-DEP and Montgomery Parks staff to manage plogging volunteers in parks, implement plogging challenges and prizes, and use Litterati software to report data.Contribute to our water quality public involvement and participation requirement for the NPDES MS4 permit.Participate in Chesapeake Bay Trust outreach programs at our parks that engage local youth and/or family groups in underserved communities.Provide excellent customer service when corresponding with volunteers by email, phone, or in person.Support cleanup projects led by Stream Strider volunteers or alternative projects led by Volunteer Program Managers.Assist with supply distribution, supply inventory, site evaluations, research, and data reporting.Other duties assigned. Minimum Qualifications Ability to complete tasks both independently under minimal supervision and as part of a team while following directions, paying attention to details, and working within deadlines.General computer skills and advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Outlook.Bilingual is a plus. Capacity to work under arduous fieldwork as well as telework when requested. Equipment and instruction for teleworking will be provided.Must be able to carry items ranging from 10-40 pounds.Minimum age: 18 years old.TRAINING:Training topics include volunteer management in parks, Litterati software, safety in the field, public engagement, environment/watershed education resources, and an optional online Defensive Driving course.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Supplemental Information This position does not provide benefits.A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.Person(s) hired for this position must provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
