The Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince George's County, Maryland. As the second most populous county in Maryland, Prince George's has a population of approximately 900,000 residents, is characterized by urban, suburban and rural areas, and is home to The University of Maryland at College Park, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base. Examples of Important Duties Conducts pre-acceptance, intake, review and approval of Natural Resources Inventory Equivalency Letters and Woodland Conservation Exemptions Conducts pre-acceptance and intake of Natural Resources Inventory Plans and Tree Conservation PlansPerforms data entry associated with the intake of environmental applicationsAssigns applications and referrals to designated Planners as neededPrepares and manages environmental files for scanningAssists in quality control and scanning of filesProvides assistance to customers in both the Countywide Planning and Department of Permitting Inspections and Enforcement officesCollects and maintains data, databases, and other information for planning and reporting purposesServes customers directly both in-person and on the phonePrepares routine correspondence related to the implementation of the requirements of County CodeConducts research and analysis necessary to develop and support environmental planning and other planning-related goalsOther duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience with plan, permit and development application review.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (4) years. Supplemental Information DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Working knowledge of: County ordinances governing zoning, subdivision, and woodland conservation areas; County and Commission organization and policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing permit and application processing; and County geography.Skills in: reading various types of development plans; use of computer databases for entering and retrieving information; communicating with the general public on matters related to permit/application processing and compliance with codes and ordinances; and a variety of computer programs and applications for word processing, spreadsheets, map production, graphics, slide presentations, data entry, or tracking systems.Ability to: work accurately and quickly while serving customers and responding to phones; understand and apply a system of procedures and rules; perform accurate mathematical calculations; and communicate effectively.Working knowledge of: ArcGIS software; editing techniques in the ArcGIS editing environment; Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; and Microsoft Access.The Prince George's County Planning Department is currently located in historic Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
