POSITION OVERVIEW: The Chief Strategy Officer is a member of the Executive Leadership Team at the Institute for Women's Policy Research and senior advisor to the President/CEO. Working closely with the President/CEO and the Chief Operating Officer, they steward IWPR's strategic plan by putting it into action and by managing, overseeing, and advancing key programs that support IWPR's vision for impact. Additionally, they provide strong day-to-day leadership for senior leadership staff, ensuring alignment of programs and departments with IWPR's strategic plan and organizational effectiveness goals.They will also develop and lead programs, ideas, and strategies to advance IWPR's thought leadership and position the organization as a leading voice on the economy and the economic security and well-being of women and families; cultivate and maintain key external stakeholder relationships; and help drive IWPR's growth and productivity.The ideal candidate for this position will be an inspiring, outcome driven, resourceful, and strategic leader who has a strong commitment to economic and gender equity and expanding the power and influence of women in society and in the workforce; experience working with Executive Leadership to realize high impact goals; and the managerial acumen to work collaboratively across departments to achieve IWPR's mission.This is an on-site position based in Washington, DC. This position is full-time and exempt.Duties and Responsibilities: Strategy, Vision, and LeadershipOwn and sustain the implementation of IWPR's growth strategy and vision for impact;Serve as a senior advisor to the President/CEO and member of the Executive Leadership Team to support organizational effectiveness and impact; Promote a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and commitment to IWPR's vision for impact;Cultivate and maintain relationships with foundations, corporations, government agencies, IWPR board members, and other key external stakeholders, and serve as a proxy for the President/CEO as needed;Analyze and understand IWPR's competitive landscape in order to identify opportunities to build its reach and public profile;At the direction of the President/CEO, set priorities, give direction, and implement success metrics that align with IWRP's impact and growth goals; Propose the creation of new systems and processes to streamline operations, manage organizational growth, and track success; Provide on-going support and supervision to IWPR the Vice President(s) to align organizational goals, department goals, and achieve high impact and support growth; Work closely with the VP of Advancement to engage new donors and build financial support for IWPR and itsstrategic initiatives;Work closely with the VP of Communications and External Affairs on brand and impact strategy for IWPR and the President/CEO, and contribute to executive-level communications such as talks, speeches, reports, and presentations; andRepresent IWPR at high-level meetings and events.Strategic Partnerships & InitiativesServe as IWPR principal for strategic partnerships and initiatives, oversee staffing plans, budgets, and execution in close coordination with the President/CEO and Executive Leadership Team;Partner with VP of Advancement and VP of External Affairs to engage new donors for high-visibility, high-impact strategic initiatives, as well as ensure visibility and progress on existing ones;Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to drive decision-making and deliver results;Introduce new systems and tools that support effective execution of strategic partnerships and initiatives and facilitate cross-functional collaboration; Direct the work of outside consultants, including negotiating and executing contracts, evaluating performance against stated milestones, and approving payments; andCommunicate clearly, manage time and resources well, drive decision-making and work capably under pressure.And other duties as assigned.Other Professional And Personal QualitiesExcellent written and verbal communications skills, including presentation skills;Proven track record of effectively interacting with diverse stakeholders including executives, researchers, practitioners, policy and advocacy organizations, public officials, and Boards of Directors;Superior problem-solving, managerial, and interpersonal skills;Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across the organization;Effective, outcome-driven and action oriented; andAbility to work well under pressure with tight deadlines and multiple priorities.Education And ExperienceA Ph.D. degree is preferred, with at least 10 years of relevant experience.Salary$175,000 to $210,000 and will be commensurate with experience.
