MAJOR FUNCTIONPerform installation and termination of various communications wiring to include voice, network, fiber optic, and other multimedia infrastructures.ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIESPerforms routine maintenance, repair, trouble shooting, programming, and installation on various telephone systems, multimedia systems, phone lines, and data circuits.Install, terminate, test, label, and document horizontal, backbone, and other cables (CAT5, CAT 5e, CAT6, and Fiber). Be capable of installing cable pathway systems, such as cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks, and D-rings. Installations will include dressing and routing of cable into telecommunications closets, modular furniture, and other work area outlets. All work will be accomplished in accordance with industry standards and national electrical code, as well as national and state environmental, health, and safety policy.Work may include reviewing potential job prospects and or conducting site surveys and developing estimates.Install card access devices, wireless access points, IP and coaxial security cameras, camera housings, switches and routers, and other network devices.Required to exert heavy physical effort at times including carrying of loads up and down stairs and ladders. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. This job will on occasion require working from heights such as lifts, ladders, scaffolding, or rooftops. Working environment may include exposure to noisy or dusty conditions, such as mechanical, electrical, and other hazards typical to a cable plant installation.Performs routine diagnostics and installation of wiring closets, circuits and communication cabling to include but not limited to voice, data network, fiber optic, and other multimedia infrastructures.Performs Moves, Adds, and Changes on various telephone systems, multimedia systems, phone lines, and data circuits.Responsible to log and call in various communication lines and circuits to local phone companies for repair.Provides user with necessary documentation and instruction on usage of telecommunications equipment.Work directly with end-users, staff, and vendors to answer technical questions and resolve problems.Responsible to determined needs of various wiring projects and to acquire material and complete the projects.Assist with, or perform programming on various voice and data communication equipment ranging from main PBX switches through mid-size to smaller keyed systems and voice mail systems.Operates testing and diagnostic communication equipment as required for service on voice, multimedia and data communication equipment.Travels to user sites to service, maintain, trouble shoot and install telephone, multimedia, and data communication equipment.Performs related duties as required.KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLSWorking knowledge of electrical and electronic circuitry.Knowledge in the use of communication testing and diagnostic equipment.Knowledge in safety and occupational hazards related to electrical and electronic repair.Ability to learn various voice, multimedia, and data communications equipment and systems.Ability to work independently and adhere to prescribed routines and policies.Ability to communicate effectively and provide quality customer service.Ability to perform duties in all weather conditions.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to lift and transport a load of forty five (45) lbs.Ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, and drive from work site to work site.Must have visual acuity.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma. Must have a minimum of five (5) year experience in telephone system and multimedia system installation and maintenance; or completion of a certified training program in telecommunication. Experience must include a minimum of one (1) year experience in installation and maintenance of voice or Category 6 network wiring infrastructures.Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Maryland driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications with the exception of license.SPECIAL PREFERENCEPreferred applicant will have a Low Voltage electrical licensePreferred applicant will have BiCSi Apprentice, Installer, and Technician certifications or equivalentJOB LOCATION: DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia)WORK SCHEDULE: 6:00 am - 2:00 pm, Monday through FridayJob Type: Full-timePay: $19.00 - $32.00 per hourBenefits:401(k)401(k) matchingDental insuranceHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offPaid trainingReferral programTuition reimbursementVision insuranceSchedule:8 hour shiftSupplemental Pay:Bonus payEducation:High school or equivalent (Preferred)Experience:cabling: 3 years (Preferred)License/Certification:Driver's License (Preferred)Work Location: Multiple Locations
