Our Ophthalmology practice is seeking a full time EXPERIENCED medical office Accounts Receivable Specialist. We are seeking detail oriented individual who is able to work both independently s well as part of a team. Experience working in a medical practice is a plus.ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Reviews all outstanding insurance balances > 30 days old for assigned accounts following policies and procedures.Contacts insurance companies or patients by phone, websites or mail regarding outstanding balances.Maintains and develops a professional and positive relationship with the provider reps and customer service department personnel for assigned carriersUpdates patient insurance and demographic information as supplied by patient, insurance carrier or internet website and file all affected claimsFiles corrected claims when determined that the original submission was incorrect.Reviews and addresses all clearinghouse rejectionSubmits claim appeals as required by each insurance carrier when denied in error. Request she assistance of a coder when necessary.Follows-up, responds, modifies or appeals all zero payments within five (5) business days of receipt.Follows-up on the status of submitted appeals and corrected claims within four (4) weeks of the submission.Notes and documents all insurance and patient communication in the patient account.Reviews visit owners as assigned on a daily basisResponds to patient billing and statement inquiries via telephone.Informs the Operations Manager, Account Representatives and Payment Poster when a consistent payment discrepancy is identified with an insurance carrier.Informs the Operations Manager and Billing team when there is a payer trend/discrepancy related to coding and billingRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Extensive knowledge and understanding of medical health insurance and claim denialsMinimum two (2) years of medical billing, collections, patient accounting, cash application experience.Knowledge of ICD10 coding and medical office operating policies and procedures required.Ability to prioritize and organize work to meet strict deadlines.Works carefully and precisely with a strong attention to detail.Must have excellent communication skills with both internal and external customersPHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands of this position are described as sedentary. The employee must be capable of sitting for a period of six (6) hours in an eight (8) hour day; walking or standing two (2) hours in an eight (8) hour day.
