System AdministratorThe George Mason University Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) invites applications for a System Administrator. OSP provides guidance and support to the university community in its research efforts and creates an administrative environment which fosters the creative process and ensures protection of the university's financial and contractual obligations. The System Administrator position will handle the technical and functional management of the research administration system, perform ongoing system testing and maintenance, and be responsible for the primary daily "help desk" support for the system providing guidance and resolving any issues that arise. This position will work closely and collaboratively with supervisor, PIs, unit administrators, and central offices on these tasks, in addition to business process alignment and system training.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment. Responsibilities:Regularly monitors system, conducts functional and system analysis, and supports ongoing maintenance and testing to ensure performance and usability;Contributes expertise to the configuration and modification of the system to meet and enhance business needs and user requirements; Reviews system data and reporting for accuracy, and ensures integration feeds and processes run accordingly;Provides user technical assistance, functional support, and solutions to business problems, working with users to diagnose, review, and resolve issues; Assists with implementing temporary "workarounds" when system issues effect operations, and collaborates with vendor partner on unresolved issues;Regularly assigns and updates user roles, and maintains system settings; Regularly reviews and ensures business processes are aligned with delivered system functionality to maximize utilization of system and streamline procedures; Updates and maintains all required system documentation, collaborates to assess system needs and identifies required changes needed, and communicates any changes that occur; Assists with keeping training materials and guides updated as system enhancement and business process changes occur; and Assists with providing user training, guidance, and demonstration of systems.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in computer information systems, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;Strong experience/knowledge of system administration management;Strong technical knowledge of database functionality and management;Strong functional knowledge of financial business practices and principles;Ability to create requirements documentation, and ability to conduct thorough system testing;Ability to document business processes in alignment with system requirements with great detail and accuracy;Ability to create a bridge between functional and technical staff to facilitate dialogue and resolve issues;Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate data; Ability to anticipate and identify problems and proactively act and alert team; Highly developed communication, time-management, problem resolution, and organizational skills;Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a diverse and collaborative environment; andProficiency with Microsoft Office products and Adobe software. Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge/experience of research administration and financial management in a university setting;Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, university, and sponsor rules and regulations related to sponsored program management; andKnowledge of GMU policies and procedures, systems, and organizational structure.Candidates must be one of the following: A citizen of the United States;A person who is a lawful permanent resident of the United States (a "Green Card" holder);A person who is a "protected individual" as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a) (3); orA person who is otherwise able to become generally eligible to receive unclassified technical data pursuant to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
