In population sequencing, Personalis operates one of the largest sequencing operations globally and is currently the sole sequencing provider to Veterans Affairs' Million Veteran Program. To enable cancer and population sequencing, Personalis' Clinical Laboratory was built with a focus on clinical accuracy, quality, big data, scale and efficiency. The laboratory is GxP-aligned as well as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988-certified and College of American Pathologists-accredited.Summary:You will join a team of bioinformaticians and software engineers whose mission is to develop robust, high-performance pipelines that can accurately and reliably analyze large volumes of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Our pipelines provide the foundation for a wide range of cutting-edge applications in the immune-oncology space, including analysis of diagnostic and emerging biomarkers that enable precision treatment for cancer patients.We are seeking a highly skilled bioinformatics engineer to bring new NGS variant calling capabilities forward from concept, through feasibility, and into production.Responsibilities:Algorithm development to support new capabilities in our bioinformatics pipelines.Evaluation and integration of in-house and third-party tools.Continued improvement and maintenance of existing pipeline modules.Big-data analysis across hundreds or thousands of samples to evaluate accuracy and performance of our pipelines. Work with stakeholders at Personalis to understand requirements and priorities.Work with the Software QA team to design and execute test plans for new pipeline releases.Requirements:At least 5 years' experience working in a bioinformatics pipeline or algorithm development role.Advanced statistical and algorithmic understanding of somatic NGS-based variant calling.Experience developing bioinformatics pipelines, including expertise with standard Next-generation sequencing analysis tools such as BWA, GATK, samtools, etc.Experience developing novel algorithms for NGS analysis.Experience using high-performance compute clusters using SGE, Torque, Slurm or equivalent.Fluency in multiple programming/scripting languages such as Python, Bash, R.Familiarity with different assays and modes of sequencing (WGS vs. Exome, RNA-seq).Domain knowledge in molecular biology and genomics, particularly in areas of cancer research.Education: Advanced degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
