Prior to 2020, most of the approximately 200 US-based staff worked on-site at the home office on a full-time basis. Some staff worked remotely on a full-time basis from other locations in the US, and some staff had tele-work agreements to work remotely one or two days/week. After almost two years of working remotely, MSI's leadership has decided to adopt a flexible approach to work locations and has a basic framework for this approach. This position will review the existing framework to fully develop MSI's flexible approach and then lead MSI's efforts to implement the approach. The successful candidate will identify and implement strategies and methods to ensure that all staff are fully engaged in their work and connected to their colleagues. He/she/they will partner with MSI executive leadership and team leaders across the company to collectively build and maintain a thriving culture and community that helps the company achieve our business goals. MSI recognizes the challenging nature of this position and seeks applicants who will approach this challenge with a mindset of problem-solving, learning and adapting. For the first few months, the primary tasks will be to learn how different teams at MSI work, review MSI's existing approach, and identify the highest priority actions for the organization. This is a new role for MSI and provides an exciting opportunity to shape and develop the position to help the organization's leadership determine what working at MSI looks like in the pandemic era and beyond. As the future of work of the organization is defined, this position will evolve.This is a full-time position based out of MSI's office in Arlington, VA. The successful candidate must be willing to work at MSI's Arlington, VA office as needed. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.Responsibilities:Employee EngagementIdentify strategies to provide inclusive and equitable experiences for remote and office-based employees. Identify new strategies to sustain employee engagement, prevent employee burnout, and retain employees. Build mechanisms to listen to and learn from staff (eg, employee engagement surveys, pulse surveys, "stay interviews," etc.).Liaise with two employee-led committees: one is focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the other is focused on staff well-being.Design, develop, and implement an Employee Recognition Program used to continuously recognize and reward employees throughout their employment journey Participate actively in the redesign of MSI's physical workspaces to enable flexibility and encourage collaboration. Make recommendations for optimal use of the home office space by individuals and teams (eg, configurations of desks, offices, conference rooms).Review MSI's current engagement tools, software, and resources and provide recommendations for any changes or additions.Support HR initiatives as requiredFacilitating Connections between Staff and TeamsLead the development and promotion of consistent norms around synchronous and asynchronous collaboration in a remote/hybrid work environment, including online/hybrid meeting etiquette, and using/maintaining knowledge management systems. Analyze current patterns and trends of communication and collaboration within MSI to identify areas of connection and isolation within the company.Design and develop strategies to increase staff awareness and use of existing internally developed knowledge sharing platforms and the Brainier Learning Management System.Coach supervisors and team leaders as they manage and lead staff through changes in MSI's work environment. Create guidance documents and then advise supervisors and team leaders as they adapt them to their teams' needs (eg, how do they use Teams, what are the expected hours of work for team members, etc.). Provide supervisors and team leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary to promote employee engagement within their own teams and departments.Identify gaps in skills related to remote work collaboration and work with MSI's Training team to implement training and learning activities.
