As an Information Technology Specialist (Network Services), you will:

- Serve as a senior Information Technology Specialist (Network Services) for overall network and telecommunications monitoring, upgrade, and management. Perform a combination of analytical, advisory, policy development, communications, problem-solving, and liaison activities within and outside the agency. Play a critical role is resolving and analyzing key operational problems and overall customer satisfaction rates.
- Provide network administration/configuration support; develop, maintain, and monitor the operations of a Infrastructure Operations Center; serve as a technical specialist for the local area and wide area networks within the Department of Agriculture's OCIO-IT organization and operations.
- Establish and manage vendor agreements; monitor vendor performance under maintenance agreements and other contractual obligations and informally arbitrates with vendors; specify and coordinate electrical power supply requirements with appropriate vendor and OCIO-CEC personnel; and install data cables and associated connections following industry standards.
- Collaborate with customer service engineers to determine cause of equipment malfunctions and to devise acceptable methods to prevent downtime occurrences; use appropriate test equipment to isolate and correct hardware/software telecommunication problems; serve as the single point of contact for vendor coordination during resolution of complex problems; analyze vendor hardware lease versus purchase options; and determine the most economical and efficient options for the government.

  • Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experiencefor this position is defined as experience:
    - Analyzing, defining, and implementing network requirements for a large scale multi-site enterprise level network environment; AND
    - Administrating and maintaining core network data center infrastructure supporting large scale multi-site enterprise level network environments; AND
    - Analyzing and resolving problems related to Network services provided;AND
    - Administering network monitoring and management software; AND
    - Analyzing operational issues to develop Network policies.
    Experience supporting a large-scale enterprise level network of 10,000 or more end users spanning at least 10 different sites as:
    -Analyzing and implementing network requirements AND
    -Sustaining core network data centers AND
    -Evaluating developmental operation issues, recommending new approaches, and administrating development of Network software policies.

    In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

    4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
