National Journal Research is looking for a Director of Business Development and Strategy to join our growing firm. We are looking for an entrepreneurial individual with excellent writing and oral communication skills who is organized, persistent, and collaborative.

This role reports directly to the Chief Business Development Officer. The National Journal Research’s revenue team offers ample opportunities for mentorship and development.

What is the National Journal Research Revenue Team?

The National Journal Research revenue team is looking for a talented candidate to help our expanding team drive growth for our government contracting business. Our business is dedicated to equipping leaders with high quality work and excellent customer service. We serve them through a growing portfolio of research and consulting services. 

This position will work closely with the Network Science Initiative (NSI) research team. The NSI research team is a custom research division within National Journal specializing in stakeholder mapping for corporations and associations. NSI identifies the people and organizations - from government, industry, think tanks, advocates, and media - with the most influence on key policy decisions; maps their connections within and across their respective communities; and develops tailored messaging and engagement strategies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with senior executives at leading defense and tech companies

  • Serving as a strategic advisor to clients with a focus on consultant-style business development

  • Regularly tracking defense and technology market trends and identifying creative ways to improve upon our service, including identifying opportunities to build greater thought leadership within the government contracting market

  • Partnering with the research team to construct creative solutions to address client challenges

  • Consistently attaining or exceeding revenue targets 

  • Exhibiting strong organizational and operational skills with a keen attention to detail

  • Strategic thinker who is skilled at client service and client problem-solving

  • Business minded individual with ambition and entrepreneurial instincts

  • Strong work ethic driven by intellectual curiosity and persistence

  • Interest in and familiarity with the national security and technology policy space and government contracting market

  • Ability to demonstrate poise and grace under pressure

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • A self-starter, eager to deliver external and internal customer service

  • Organization and time management skills, with the ability to independently manage competing priorities and efficiently respond to urgent requests

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university

  • A full course of the COVID-19 vaccination is required for employment at National Journal

  • Active contributor to a diverse and inclusive workplace

Compensation: The salary range for this role is $100,000+ plus performance bonus, commensurate with experience
