Assistant Director of Media Relations The George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School, located on the Arlington campus, seeks a full time Assistant Director of Media Relations. Responsibilities: Assists the Assistant Dean for Strategic Communications & Marketing in the day-to-day management of an aggressive, pro-active media public relations program;Develops, reviews, and edits communication materials prior to release to the media;In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Strategic Communications & Marketing, participates in the development and implementation of strategic communications and publicity plans for the law school;Provides guidance to key stakeholders within the law school regarding media activities such as story pitches, op-ed placement, and distribution of news releases;Provides editorial guidance and edits for media relations representatives and strengthens the team working environment;Writes, edits, and distributes news feature stories and other requested communication materials to ensure effective coverage of law school activities and initiatives;Manages assigned media and public relations campaigns and produces weekly, monthly reports to track campaign progress;Brings out-of-the box ideas for positive publicity and placements;Identifies and cultivates local, national, and international media contacts as part of a proactive strategy to aggressively increase coverage of the law school, its faculty and institutes/centers in support of the law school's strategic initiatives;Supports and identifies faculty experts who will respond to media requests;Prepares stakeholders/law school leadership for media opportunities and/or other public speaking engagements by preparing talking points, speeches, testimonies, or other remarks; andPerforms other job-related duties as required. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and considerable relevant experience (typically 5 yrs);Excellent storytelling skills: strong writing, editing, and oral communication with attention to detail; andDemonstrated capacity to process complex material and produce clear, concise and engaging press releases, feature stories, and other original content under deadline pressure.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in higher education media relations.
