Assistant Director, Student Success CoachingThe George Mason University's Student Success Coaching unit invites applications for an Assistant Director. About the Department:The Division of University Life's Student Success Coaching unit is a hub for student engagement for all new freshman and transfer students. Student success coaching increases the retention rate and academic success of incoming students by helping students set and achieve academic, career, and personal goals and connecting students to campus and community resources. The Student Success Coaching unit provides incoming students access to ongoing mentoring and coaching from professional and student staff that maintain university-wide and college-specific knowledge to ensure the success of Mason's incoming student populations. About the Position:Reporting to the Associate Director for Student Success Coaching, the Assistant Director for the Student Success Coaching unit specializes in the coordination and implementation of the success coaching program at George Mason University. The Assistant Director supervises professional Success Coaches and works in collaboration with the other Assistant Directors to assist in increasing the retention rate of first-year students. Responsibilities:Supervise, manage, and train coaching team consisting of approximately 4-6 coaches, a senior success coach, and a graduate assistant who serves a constant and immediate source of support for students, highly visible, extremely accessible, well known, and available at Mason and online;Assist with overall development, implementation, and management of the coaching program at George Mason University;Monitor coach caseload and student oversight, with attention to student progress and performance, problem areas, and intervention activities and processes for students;Maintain a small caseload of approximately 100 students, providing proactive coaching and holistic support for their assigned caseload of incoming students in their first year and available for the duration of students' time at Mason as needed by using the university's chosen methodology in the eight focus areas of development (academics and major fit, school community, managing commitments, effectiveness, commitment to graduation, career exploration, finances, and health and support);Encourage student participation in strategic initiatives of the University (i.e. Patriot Experience, Mason IMPACT, etc.);Assistant Directors must participate in university wide foundational coaching training and achieve success coaching certification within 15 months of attending foundational coach training;Assistant Directors are required to participate in university wide foundational coaching training and ongoing professional development;Assistant Directors are required to actively participate in professional organizations;Coaches must achieve success coaching certification within 15 months of attending foundational coach training.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling or related field, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience;Demonstrated knowledge of success coaching, academic advising, orientation, disability services, veteran's services, career services, student involvement, and student rights and responsibilities;Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience. Various levels of supervision preferred (i.e. professional staff, graduate level staff and students);Demonstrated skills in communication, program development, and administrative operations and procedures;Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service;Strong working knowledge of student transitional issues;Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate with a variety of constituents and departmental stakeholders;Ability to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff;Ability to manage conflicting and competing situations;Ability to meet deadlines, work accurately and quickly with attention to detail, and manage multiple complex programs and projects simultaneously.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree;Success coaching certification;Experience with educational database management systems and customer relationship management systems (CRM);At least three years of progressive experience working in a university setting.
