Graduate Program Coordinator The George Mason University Department of History and Art History is seeking a dependable, well-organized, detail-oriented Graduate Program Coordinator to assist with the operational, programmatic and administrative aspects of the History and Art History MA and PhD programs.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity. We maintain a reputation for excellence in traditional subfields as well as in the cutting-edge areas of digital and public history. Responsibilities: This position will report to the department Office Manager; however, the Graduate Coordinator provides direct day-to-day support to department program directors. Primary duties include:Update and keep current the programs of study for graduate students;Assist students with registration, tracking academic progress, assistantships, and graduation;Coordinate the master's comprehensive exam process and the doctoral minor field exam process;Manage all paperwork for students to advance to candidacy, conduct degree audits for students eligible to graduate, and organize dissertation defenses;Coordinate the admissions process for potential and newly admitted students;Prepare and distribute information/marketing packets promoting the university, history and art history graduate programs, and courses within the department;Working with the department chair, program directors, and office manager, manage the administration of the graduate assistantship program: serve as the expert for graduate student hiring procedures and the graduate student handbook, translate the graduate assistant memo into an Excel spreadsheet, calculate, record and track stipends and tuition waivers/grants, manage the GA onboarding and contract process, and administer the department's SGHI program; Keep the department's graduate portion of the website current; andOrganize the annual graduate student welcome reception, the doctoral orientation, and doctoral information sessions. Required Qualifications: A bachelor's degree, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required;Detail-oriented with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously;Strong written and oral communication skills;Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and with using web-conferencing software (e.g. Zoom, MS Teams);Strong problem-solving skills;Experience communicating and interacting with constituents across levels of an organization; andAbility to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate in a robust team environment.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a higher education academic department setting.
