Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a visual enterprise editor to join the National Desk with the mission of conceiving and executing high-impact visual and immersive storytelling.

This editor, who will report to the National Editor, will oversee quick-turn coverage and projects that seek to convey information in visually compelling and innovative ways, such as reimagining how to capture an important bill signing or political rally . Other pieces might bring a human dimension to news events, offer an innovative take on a complex development, or quickly convey the enormity of social change . The goal of this new position is to elevate our coverage and to help attract new audiences through visual-first stories that integrate photographs, video, graphics, audio and design.

This editor will work closely with reporters and editors across National to identify story targets, while also serving as the key player in coordinating with the data, graphics, photo, video, audio and design teams. They will initially oversee one full-time reporter.

This role is intended for a highly accomplished, collaborative visual journalist with a record of success working across disciplines to execute memorable multimedia journalism. Excellent editorial and visual judgment are essential; competitive zeal is key, as is a high metabolism and a passion for breaking news. Candidates should have a strong background in visual reporting, with deep experience in video, photo, graphics or design, and should have at least five years of experience as an editor running a visual team. Someone with a talent for editing text for visual impact is preferred.

This position, which is part of a major expansion of The Post's editing ranks, is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
