Duties

  • Provide expert guidance, advice, and assistance on major program planning and related policy issues affecting National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the national biomedical research community.
  • Serve as the expert liaison from the NIA in consultations with appropriate NIH staff to develop reports on the scientific initiatives and advances generated by National Institute pf Health (NIH) and/or NIA research program activities for the Congress, Health and Human Services (HHS), and the lay community.
  • Independently develop reports and other documents on the policies, program, plans, research accomplishments, and other activities within the purview of the NIA.
  • Provide staff support to expert committees and major meetings managed by the NIA Director to address major NIA research program and policy issues.
  • Follow up on summary actions resulting from the meetings and ensures completion and successful implementation by the appropriate Office or Division.
  • Compare and contrast current and proposed policies to formulate strategies for addressing conflicting or duplicate policies across the ICs.
  • Provide executive management with recommendations to improve and/or overcome shortfalls and deficiencies and formulates alternative courses of action for the solution of complex cross cutting issues.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-14 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education ( https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation ) at the time the degree was obtained.

Additional Qualifications:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting in-depth analyses of research programs to determine data-driven decision making and policy development; formulating and implementing strategic plans to advance biomedical research priorities; identifying trends and emerging problems in health science-related areas resulting in research policy changes; and preparing analytical health research reports and policy recommendations based on scientific data findings.

  • Location of position is negotiable after selection. Your salary will be based upon the locality pay of your work site as determined by law. The selected individuals may work anywhere in the United States, including onsite at NIH's main campus in Bethesda, MD. Work sites outside of the U.S. are prohibited.
