Description: Full-time On-Call RN for after hours M-Fri 4:30 pm - 8:00 am JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARYThe On-Call Registered Nurse plans, organizes and directs the hospice care of patients in the field after hours in conjunction with the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team. The RN provides direct patient care with an emphasis on palliative care, provides education and support to families and caregivers. The RN is responsible for providing emergency, PRN, routine, and admission visits as necessary or scheduled.The RN must be capable of compassionate communication with patients and their families, and must have keen observation skills, high ethical standards, and knowledge of when to alert other members of the IDT about changes in the patient's condition. A hospice nurse RN must be resilient and sympathetic, and should have emotional and physical stability to deal with the challenges of severe illness and death. Ability to work independently and with autonomy. This position requires Strong Assessment Skills to help respond to our patients needs at night.. Requirements: POSITION QUALIFICATIONSGraduate of an accredited school of nursing. One (1) to two (2) years of recent acute care experience in an institutional setting, and one (1) to two (2) years of recent experience in home care.Current licensure in State of Maryland and CPR certification.Bachelor's degree, with one (1) year of hospice care experience preferred.Management experience not required. Responsible for supervising hospice aides.Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, basic math skills; nursing skills per competency checklist.Prolonged or considerable walking or standing. Able to lift, position and/or transfer patients. Able to lift supplies and equipment. Considerable reaching, stooping bending, kneeling and/or crouching. Visual acuity and hearing to perform required nursing skills.Registered Nurse must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
