As the HR Manager for the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), you will lead human resources matters for 65+ high-performing, dedicated professionals. As the largest association of independent schools, NAIS co-creates the future of education by uniting and empowering our community. We will look to you to quickly come up to speed as you build relationships with staff across the organization and become a trusted advisor to all. You will be supported by our Chief Operating Officer and initially, while you get acclimated, an outsourced HR professional. You will apply your broad expertise across all areas of HR (eg, recruitment, benefits, compliance, employee relations, training and development, performance management, compensation, and culture management) to enhance and administer human resource policies, programs, and best practices that will support NAIS as we continue to elevate our culture of excellence. This is a highly engaged, hands-on integral role where you will manage the day-to-day needs of the organization while leading key HR initiatives. NAIS is a nonprofit membership association that provides services to more than 1,800 private K-12 independent schools in the United States and abroad, as well as and associations of schools. In the role of HR Manager, you will leverage your subject matter expertise to build in the systems and supports for our internal teams to keep our culture thriving, our employees engaged and supported, and our human resource function running smoothly. Provide counsel to the management team in the design, management, and implementation of effective human resource policies and procedures; ensure compliance and best practice information is shared and understood with all employees.Compliance. Maintain compliance with federal, multi-state, and local laws. Work across the organization to ensure adherence to applicable regulations including FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, ADA, EEO, and OSHA. Update the employee handbook, oversee compliance reporting and testing, and maintain personnel files.Employee relations and engagement. Manage employee relations, provide an appropriate level of coaching and counseling, and lead solution-focused discussions with managers and senior leadership.Performance management. Manage NAIS's performance management programs, in partnership with managers and senior leadership, and recommend improvements; guide the development and implementation of performance improvement plans (PIP). Learning and development. Support managers in assessing the learning and development needs of staff, track training and development programs, and provide guidance as needed for an effective learning culture.Benefits. Work closely with the management team on benefits issues that impact related budgets, support employees regarding benefit issues, and serve as liaison to brokers, providers, and vendors; coordinate annual insurance renewal and open enrollment process; administer short-term disability claims. Recruitment. Support hiring managers, the management team, and/or outside consultants on vacancies and subsequent recruitment efforts; manage the full-cycle recruitment process; develop job descriptions. Culture management support. Provide thoughtful conversations on culture management issues and concerns that impact the culture of NAIS and its overall work environment. QualificationsA bachelor's degree in HR or related field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of HR generalist/manager experience; PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, or similar certification is preferred.Prior experience serving nonprofit organizations that are similar in size would be beneficial.Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with HR practices and principles; thorough understanding of and familiarity with applicable state and federal employment law; experience working with a multi-state environment preferred. Experience supporting all facets of human resources including recruiting, employee relations, benefits, training and development, compliance, and compensation required. Proficiency with HRIS systems or ADP Workforce Now is preferred; fluency in Microsoft Office and active knowledge of existing and emerging human resource-related tools and applications.
