The Department: The Riverdale Park Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that works with our community partners as we deliver quality service to address our rapidly growing community's needs. The Department has a strong leadership team that actively promotes our core values of service, honor, integrity, and professionalism. The Department is currently allocated for 23.5 police officers and eight civilian employees. The Patrol Division is responsible for safeguarding the lives and property of the people we serve, providing 24-hour police patrol and police dispatch services. The Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for investigating reported crimes against persons and property, conducting administrative investigations of reported misconduct, and completing employee background investigations.The Department is accountable and transparent, keeping our community informed about the Department's activities through the Town's Status and Information Reports. The Department also posts policies, procedures, and protocols on the Town's webpage. In furthering these goals, the Chief implemented a Chief's Community Advisory Committee to promote open, honest, and direct communication between the Riverdale Park community and its Police Department.The Position: The Town of Riverdale Park Police Department is seeking a part-time communications dispatcher. The work schedule includes 12-hours shifts, weekends, holidays, and nights; this position is being offered to help with shortages as they transpire. Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination required as a condition of employment and continued employment.Ideal Candidate: Candidates must have the ability to: make quick, independent decisions, handle simultaneous tasks under pressure; learn the local geography and street systems; speak distinctly on the telephone and radio, and accurately enter orally supplied information into a computer. Specific duties required of the candidate include: receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls; determining the priority of incoming calls and accurately relaying information to officers; providing information, support, and guidance to callers in stressful situations; serving as a liaison between the public and Police; send, receive and disseminate confidential information; enter and update information into statewide and national databases; obtain required certifications and update job knowledge through classroom, on the job, and self-initiated training.The minimum candidate qualifications include: must be US citizen, 18 years of age, have HS diploma/GED, have excellent communication skills, proficient typing skills, and pass a background check. The following are preferred candidate qualifications: previous experience in communications dispatching, bi-lingual (Spanish), and AA degree.The Community: The Town of Riverdale Park is a growing community. The Town is located between the City of Hyattsville and the City of College Park, Maryland. The Town's population is approximately 7,286. The Town is experiencing significant development and is poised for additional development as two Purple-Line Stations will be constructed within the Town. The Town operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Town's elected leadership is comprised of a Mayor and six (6) Council Members. The Mayor serves as the chair of the Council, the legislative branch of the Town Government.Compensation: The position is being offered at an hourly rate of $23.50/hour.
