Commercial/Farm Lines Underwriting SupervisorOur client has Retained The Carlisle Group to conduct a search for a Commercial Lines Underwriting Supervisor that will also handle Farm lines. Our client is a well-respected, A Rated, P&C Insurance company. The Commercial/Farm Lines Underwriting Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, scheduling, work distribution, and overall productivity of Commercial/ Farm Lines staff. Responsible to assist the Managing Dir of U/W and Marketing with the operational and technical functions of the department. Responsible for the development and monitoring of communications between department personnel and the agency force and clients. Overall, the person in this position will be directed toward achievement of assigned performance objectives in support of the Commercial/Farm Lines Operational Plan.General Description Underwrites agency books of business, taking appropriate action Directs daily activities toward achievement of assigned performance objectives in support of the Commercial Lines Operational Plan Manages agencies through documentation of exception, nonrenewal, declination, accommodations, and other reports. Agency reviews to be completed at the end of the year Communicates with the agency force, clients, and our reinsurers with respects to Commercial Lines underwriting. Assists with developing short- and long-term goals, assist with establishing operating policies and procedures that are consistent, and monitors the quality and compliance of the underwriting department Assists with establishing underwriting guidelines, and programs for risk improvement. Analyzes underwriting philosophy, products, pricing, positioning, and distribution systems of major competitors and recommend appropriate action Travels to agencies in support of Company strategic initiatives Assists with developing filings for the insurance department as well as responds to the Insurance Commissioner's requests and correspondence with the company Assists with the Commercial/Farm Lines Underwriting Training Programs Assists with the training of all Underwriters regarding selection, pricing, in-force underwriting and renewal underwriting Prepares and presents programs regarding Commercial LinesSupervisory Duties: Oversees productivity and accuracy of Commercial/Farm Lines staff Ensures overall cooperation of the group supervised Schedules employees Distributes work for supervised employees Monitors underwriters' adherence to department policies and procedures Mentors direct reports, supporting their development Evaluates employee's performance in an equitable and timely manner Assists the Managing Dir of U/W and Marketing in selecting new personnel as appropriate Monitors use of facultative reinsurance and adherence to treaty reinsurance by Commercial Lines staffPerforms underwriting duties as follows: Reviews new and renewal business determining if underwriting guidelines and criteria are met for assigned agencies Performs underwriting file audits, providing timely feedback to underwriters and identifying training/development needs as necessary. Approves or declines referred applications Advises pricing and negotiates terms and conditions of coverage. Evaluates the pricing and usage of reinsurance Reviews endorsement requests, incoming correspondence, binders and certificates of insurance for assigned agencies Underwrites agency books of business, taking appropriate action Directs daily activities toward achievement of assigned performance objectives in support of the Commercial Lines Operational Plan Manages agencies through documentation of exception, nonrenewal, declination, accommodations, and other reports.
