Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer (Tools and Environment) to provide on-site technical support to a Department of Defense (DoD) customer. We are seeking a qualified engineering expert who demonstrates creativity, foresight, initiative, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented problems. Responsibilities include acting as the technical lead providing planning, development, testing, and oversight across a complex and dynamic portfolio of capabilities of the highest national priority. The candidate will support advancing use of tools, modelling & simulation, and applications in a digital environment/ecosystem for the activities within the DoD. This position requires a candidate with experience performing a variety of complex engineering tasks across the engineering tools and environment discipline, including: Advise, discover, and if necessary, develop digital / model-based techniques and artifact implementation processes in support of systems engineering applications Develop and support transition and implementation plan(s) for digital engineering in specific areas of interest such as development/employment of digital engineering effectiveness metrics, establishing minimum viable capability guides, etc. Develop guidance in tool selection and other evaluation criteria for enabling DoD partners to enhance digital engineering implementation Contribute to and evolve ecosystem requirements matched to solutions so that future engineering ecosystems, whether procured by or developed within the DoD, have the same evolving functionality Identify other infrastructure elements that are in successful use for DoD applications (including but not limited to test range infrastructure, Joint Staff networks, training networks, etc.) Identify, characterize, select and when approved, employ hardware and software to maintain interconnected and interoperable computational environments Identify appropriate tools, tool chains, and supporting licensing models to support interoperability and provide a suitable computational environment appropriate to execute the engineering activities and priorities within the organization Advise leadership on discovery, access, and reuse of model and simulation enablers, interoperability, and modularity of model and/or simulation environments and artifacts Engage and coordinate with other DoD organizations and stakeholders to create understanding and promote engineering policies and guidance Oversee the performance of less experienced systems engineers Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline that is relevant to engineering with 15 years of engineering experience US citizen with a minimum DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI eligibility Desired Qualifications: Experience supporting the Office of the Secretary of Defense Experience supporting or working with the Defense Research & Engineering community Hands on experience in the RDT of technologies or complex systems This position is contingent upon award of a contract expected in Summer 2021 supporting the Department of Defense.
