Job SummaryAssists interventional radiologist in the performance of complex diagnostic and therapeutic angiographic procedures. Provides patient care as needed and documents medical procedures. Assists in providing efficient and effective patient care.Minimum QualificationsEducation/TrainingAssociate's degree or one to three years formaltraining in an AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology is required.ExperienceApproximately four to six months of job related experiencein the performance of angiography and other complex radiological examinations.On The Job ExperienceApproximately three to six months to gainfamiliarity with the Hospital environment, department routines and procedures,and the full range of job duties.License/Certification/RegistrationMust have passed American Registry of RadiologicTechnologists (ARRT) examination and be ARRT certified.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesPROBLEM SOLVING: Job requires a moderate level of problem-solving. However, the problems are usually not very complex. Standard methods, guides, and procedures are generally available.INTERNAL CONTACTS: Internal contacts necessary to effectively explain and interpret information for others inside the Hospital.INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: Work generally has standard procedures and instructions but the incumbent must organize work and set priorities.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms and/or assists in all angiographic and interventional imaging procedures as well as myelography, arthrography and venography.Prepares and positions patient, and operates/monitors imaging devices during procedures. Utilizes immobilization devices and radiation protective measures during the operation of imaging equipment.Evaluates radiographs for technical accuracy and quality. Assures that studies are properly identified and filed in patient film jackets.Completes required quality control and quality assurance records, and summarizes services rendered for statistical reports.Verifies the procedure(s) performed as indicated by the physician on the superbill.Takes call on a rotating basis, for after hours/weekend coverage.Utilizes physical assessment skills, monitoring devices (pulse, respiration, blood pressure, EKG), intravenous care and aseptic techniques in providing patient care.Ensures that supply levels in the procedure rooms are adequate, and notifies the individual responsible for ordering replenishment stock when appropriate.About MedStar HealthMedStar Health is dedicated to providing the highest quality care for people in Maryland and the Washington, DC, region, while advancing the practice of medicine through education, innovation and research.
